I need help. My 1997 Subaru Outback stalls when I accelerate slowly. I've already replaced the MAF sensor, the crankshaft sensor, the fuel tank, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the TSP sensor, and replaced the ignition coil, but the car still stalls. Please Help

  • You shouldn't accelerate slowly. The frickin' lights' green and you're in the left lane. Go. Go! GOOOOOO!

    Sincerely,
The guy in the car behind you.

  • So floor it at all times. Problem solved

  • Failed fetzer solenoid and/or dikenheimer valve.

    Or its a head gasket.

    • S c o t t y
  • Pff, disregard everyone else. You probably just need a tire rotation.

They rotate when you drive, duh.

  • This is why local traffic is slow as molassass.... Hit the bloody gas pedal ffs....

and put some damn gas in er!

  • If you have an ELM327 tool or scangauge, can you view the output of the TPS? Make sure it's reading properly?I've had new TPS's bad out of the box.

I've also had an idle-air control valve stick causing this exact issue, went unnoticed when I took the throttle body off for a good cleaning. Finally figured it out when it stuck 'open' instead, running things up to 4-5k rpm :)

  • You need to replace a lot more than that. You need to replace the wiring, the unibody, the exterior sheet metal, interior upholstery, and the seats.
