Before you guys hit me with the "u dont have to do it" yes, we know.

I wasnt quite sure what the whole expedition thing was about so I thought id give it a go without knowing the 5mill PENALTY for already doing the expedition.

Its Christmas season and ive had to graft a good 4.5mill to get all 5 bonus points and I figured once I was already at the expedition I might aswell go for it.

I have a full time job, no kids and dont live with my mrs so I cant imagine how you guys feel with kids, wife and a job. Its absolutely pointless! My friends have helped me get to where I am now and it already feels like a part time job!

I enjoy this game but this is the first major thing that has made me feel like I don't want to put my time into it is this bs grindy way of securing 5m when nothing in the game costs 1% of that value. Embark get your sh*t together next season and make it a FUN way to earn those 5 skill points.

I have not enjoyed 1 bit of this road to 5m, I love playing and interacting with other raiders, working as teams or even fighting other raiders but this isnt it man.

Hopefully it gets changed next season

  • Watch Next expedition be 50 rusted gears LOL

That's easy. When an item isn't in my tracked agenda it drops like candy from a piñata. Hello candelabra where did you go when I thought you were worthless?

    They're in my safe pocket.

I mean the base is flared so

I mean the base is flared so

    No.

I also find that once I finish what I need it for, suddenly it spawns every round. I think this game might be trolling us sometimes.

Like how you spawn on the other side of the map when you bring a key? 😂

When I was running solo and about to extract with a rando I was stating how I needed one final lightbulb for my expedition. Right as I say that searching a broken down car before calling the lift, I find the bulb after spending the whole round not finding a single one.

Brb, I'm going to go wander the swamp spamming I need one final mushroom into the mic!

You dont find them in the swamp but the tunnel from water treatment

There are a few on dead trees, but they are hard to come across. I do sometimes get them in water treatment but there are a lot of people in there and I'm more of a loot ninja. Aaaaaaand I just got one from a log in the scrap yard. Flickering Flames complete!

They’re in the swamp. Look on trees and on the banks of the swamp

Spaceport trench, guaranteed (I think, never didn't spawn for me) multiple mushroom spawn on a tree at the far east side by the stairs

Thank you so much, I'll check that out. I also love getting Great Mullein there, so many plants.

Oh man, i totally forgot about that spot when i was running low on herbs and went to the buried city galleria looting the pots like a madman 🙈

If you mean car right by the lift on at the power generation complex on dam, that always has two bubs.

If it was the car next to the northern extraction point on damm battlegrounds, it wasn’t luck. There ist an almost 100% drop chance for two lightbulbs in this car.

I'm still trying to find my last rusted gear, this shit is so demotivating, I've been playing since release, which dev thought "hey John I gotta a fun idea, lets make it near impossible to find rusted gears"

Buses and generators at Dam North Extract. You’ll find one within 2-3 raids, probably first trip.

I'll give that a try, Ive been searching mainly cars in the blue gate tunnels, with no avail

Ya buses are your best bet. It's where I got all mine and helped some friends with theirs.

I found a bunch in the cars on collapsed highway. Also motors and mechanical components and oil.

Up north dam battlegrounds, always find one in the generator by the buses only took a few runs

I find about 3 per raid and break them down.

Car junkyards are where I'd look. Buses particularly.

Which wouldn't be too bad if they inform us at the start, not a week before the expedition departure. 5 Mil would have been easily doable, even for those of us with jobs, if we had prior notice. What blows is that we had to pony up the cash with such short notice.

And even before that we didn’t know if coins counted just assumed they did, but even then it felt before hand that after you upgraded the stash fully coins were just to play around with or fill gaps. I’d of never bought as many hullcrackers or random renegades or whatever else if I knew that money mattered.

Like if money spent at vendors counted as “contribution” to the expedition or something that would have been fine. But what you already put in to make the shuttle should count so basically a default 1-2 skill points and then 3m for the other 3

Really if this info graphic of being able to check totals and what you have/need was always somewhere to look at that would be huge but in general it should just be a lot less

I wish I had known the reward was gonna be the tutorial skin. I’ve put so many hours into Arc Raiders these past 2 days. Like a crazy amount.

I play other games and I haven’t touched them in 3 days.

You don't need the 5M for the skin.

If that was the tipping point, you kind of wasted your time over the last few days gunning for the skill points.

    Or 1k mashrooms

Dear god. I'm not sure if others were picking them before me, but running around on Dam I would check the usual trees and it was rare that there was any mushrooms on them.

    Sorry, that was-a-me, Mario.

Everyone needs like 7 for the flickering flames project. Going to get tense at Dam for a few days.

PS, there’s a dead tree at Spaceport in the NE part of the map, near the raider hatch. Usually has 3-4 shrooms on 1 tree. Also apricots and mullein in the area. Spawns nearby are rare, bring some stims!

Cold snap and lush blooms just search for baskets that's the fastest way to collect this also ton of candle berries inside during cold snap

Ill uninstall this fucking game. My last bench to be upgrade was because of the fucking rusted gears. Then I learned to look inside busses

    Or 50 mushrooms.

... There's going to a be a lot of dead bodies around that one tree in Spaceport.

  • I really hope expeditions will be more dynamic in terms of gameplay challenges and not just filling a progress bar with random loot

yeah make the quest matter for example. i did 66 Quests and it feels like a total waste of time

After I saw expedition would reset all quest I literally didn’t seek out one again. Some happened on accident that’s it.

Literally same here, I also crossed 3mil last night and feel like even that was a huge slog to get through.

Just crossed three as well. I’m calling it there. With my job, kids, wife, and the holidays, another two is just never going to happen.

Jah feel. They fumbled this bag hard. Couldve really added motivation to finishing quests by somehow tieing it towards the expedition but as it stands they just feel like an optional thing you can do for some mid loot. Grinding 5 mil also feels like im doing an end game wow quest

I quest for the guaranteed trigger nade BP and that's it

Then why do them? Seriously. Are you playing the game only for what you get or are you playing the game because you enjoy the process of actually playing the game…

I play to find fruit! My cock shall be the mightiest!

Free loot and maybe one of the most important gun BPs in game? Seemed pretty worth it to me.

Tarkov has all kinds of cool “near end of wipe” events. They all encourage running your juice and even spoil you with more $$/ gear to keep playing. I think Embark failed about as badly as it’s possible to with this wipe. We’ll see if they figure it out, or instead can’t figure out how to cater to regular players

  • I'm all for grinding.

But as long as you need loot value/cash, the most efficient ways of grinding involve reducing risk AKA not using your good gear.

    That's not fun.

Yeh only free load outs everywhere. I'll let my good gear go to waste, I imagined very exiting last few days with tons of good gear being brought into the map but it's just free load outs. It always makes me sad to kill someone just to see it's free gear, so I won't risk my good gear for that.

Looting Mk 2 is so cheap to make it's silly not to use it if all you're doing is trying to make cash.

What does it matter if you’re wiping anyway, been having a fun time running around with aphelions

I bring in significantly more loot with my custom kit over a free loadout. T2 Looting with a light shield, T4 Stitcher with all green attachments, T4 Anvil with a suppressor. Green heals, green shield charges, stims and a stack of lures. Ran 15 solos last night without dying. Downed once but another solo revived me.

The grind is still rough though. I took a break right as the 5 million mark was started and only started in over the past 5 days. Went from 500k to 2.5 million. I’m done till the reset.

  • They need to change it completely. We should be using our equipment, not hoarding it.

THIS! don't get the point in basically forcing me to NOT use it before a wipe, looks like the whole point is to hoard stuff for the next wipe, not cool at all.

  • A lot of my friends planned on doing the Expedition, but stopped bothering when the 5 million value was introduced. Many people don't enjoy the hoarding game, while leaving their best gear at home.

Its honestly kinda ass backwards philosophy in a game like this. So your telling me in an extraction shooter, based purely around loot, that you want me to not use any of it and keep it stashed?

Part of what makes Extraction Shooters fun is the power creep as you get more skilled with better rarity of gear for more efficiency. But that's essentially non-existent here. The problem becomes even worse when you consider that some of the best PvP guns are common rarity.

Right, before the wipe there should be tons of gold guns out there as people empty out their stashes. Instead people are leaving their good shit in the bank because why risk losing money?

That's why I grinded to 5 million in my bank without selling my stash items, and now I'm just unloading it all today lol. Bobcats and Tempests all damn day

Yup. I completed the expedition project and along the way I found the Wolfpack blueprint. I was like “sweet I’m gonna kill so many arc with this!”

Not at 5000 coin per Wolfpack I’m not. I ended up doing runs with a ferro 4 and kitted out stitcher 4. Forget making hullcrackers to kill the queen.

Then to top it off, I just hit 2 mil last night. I have very little gaming time available to me today. I know it’s not enough to reach 3 mil, so I won’t be bothering with Arc Raiders because I don’t like free kits and don’t wanna risk dropping below 2 million and not having time to recover.

Embark, you shouldn’t disincentivize players to play your game or to use the best gear.

Not at 5000 coin per Wolfpack I’m not. I ended up doing runs with a ferro 4 and kitted out stitcher 4. Forget making hullcrackers to kill the queen.

    Bad way to see this.

Ferro and Stitcher costs you like 5 or 10 minutes to kill Rocketeer or Bastion. Wolfpack costs you like 1 or 2 minutes to kill it. Even if you throw 5000 coins away, you earn back 3 times or 5 times more.

    Use your time more efficient...

There are people that sell their entire stash and run free kits when they could be earning 3 times more with just a little upfront investment...

totally agree, a little upfront investment can return a lot more. I've gotta say, I tried this strategy probably 3-4 times, and every single time, while I was looting the bastion / bombardier, I was shot in the back of the head with no remorse. id rather just sell half of stash and free loadout it so I risk losing absolutely nothing, while still climbing towards 5 mil.

and this a terrible gameplay loop. dont get me wrong I love this game, and even had some fun doing the 5m grind. but it has totally changed the way every player plays this game and its a tad bit defeating after getting in a big gun fight with multiple teams just to find out they're all running free kits and have no loot on them...

edit: I basically sold everything except the things I may use for a custom loadout, (in case I needed/ wanted to bring a custom in) and then free loadouted it back to the top. currently 4.3 in my wallet and only 700k in stash because of this. selling everything and keeping nothing is not the way this game was designed to be played. but it is however the guaranteed way to make 5m without sacrificing or putting any other loot you've already brought home in jeopardy.

I've been crafting wolf packs and essentially exchanging them for bombardier cores on buried city. Spawn, beeline to plaza rosa, toss 2 at him, and maybe a heavy fuze if those 2 didn't kill it for whatever reason. It's a decent turnaround.

At most I've had it drop 8 cores for me. Between the cores and other stuff it drops I'm pulling out on average 90k every 5 minutes.

It's not very fun tho 💀

I agree 100% that Embark has incentivized hoarding to hit the 5 mil and I hope this gets changed for the next expedition.

I would like to offer a counter point, esp in regard to the Wolfpack BP. To me I see a wolf pack as an easy rocketeer kill and 2 as an easy Bastion kill. Pull that off in a night raid and you are walking away with 50k+ for a 5-10k investment. Not to mention the steady flow of metal and arc motion cores which you use to craft more Wolfpacks.

The flow I fell into was basic mats into wolfpacks into big arc kills into profit. It allowed me to still feel like I using some of my fun gear during my grind for space cash.

In addition, with MK Looter 2 your Wolfpacks stay safe in your two safe pockets until you are ready to kill your big arc baddie, and then are replaced with stacks of bastion cells or w/e, which even if you are killed can net you 10’s of thousands.

I found my gameplay loop changed dramatically when I started crafting Wolfpacks. Just thought I’d offer my two cents. And as we say in my squad: “Scared money don’t make money.”

I am in the same exact boat, here the moment they increase the bp drop rate I now need to sell every single one I find, because I started the expedition. Just hit 2mil, don’t have time to make any more, and everyone is way more aggressive now because they’re about to lose their shit. Sometimes I wonder why I bought the game and I hate that

Playerbase: we understand the point of free kits, but honestly people are using them too much, it’s making the game really stale

Embark: ok so we made a change, from now on we would prefer if you ONLY use free kits and keep 100% of your money and gear in your stash. This should ensure 90% of the players you see are running free kits.

    Like ok thanks guys lol

Yeah, I bought the game for a friend a couple days ago as an early Christmas present(wanted to get him started on the candle light event and have him here for after the reset) but I’ve basically just been apologizing to him because I can’t really play just fun rounds with him because I’m on the 5 mil grind. I can’t wait for tomorrow so we can just fuck around, scuffle with some raiders, pick fights with arc we are way under geared for, and explore the maps.

Yeah this last week has been “sorry guys I can’t risk losing anything and still need to solo grind money” “after Sunday though we got this”

And that does suck most of my group started a month or two in after I kept gushing about it and now I can’t even really play with them till the expedition is over with.

I'm very happy i finished the 5mil a week ago so i could play to just have fun.

On top of that the grey weapons literally outshine epic weapons so that gives players even more of a reason to horde them like why tf would I bring a 30k modded bobcat if a 10-15k modded stitcher can go for band for band against it??

I feel for you bro. Same story, same hours: wolfpack BP early on, used a few. Saw how unsustainable it was to craft, and then started the expedition. My Venator and Torrente blueprints has been used less than they should, and kettle/ferro has been crafted even when having parts for better ones. The expedition economy caused a lot of anti gaming decisions.

You can do the expedition with the maximum reward. It's all fomo for 2 or 3 additional skillpoints.
I haven't farmed a single raid, but I played a lot since the game launched.

FOMO with Sunken cost, which together are prime burnout drivers. Btw I played 2h a day average, and have 3M value on departure. Played lots for me means 4h a day, which isn't feasible for the highest % of the player base (nor me). Hence full bonus Expedition will be only for the smallest population. Many that did want to do the expedition will not do so uniquely because of the 5M time and effort investment. All in all a tone deaf implementation that's not sustainable. Time will show.

This is the way. The skill points are on the bottom when it comes to the purpose of doing the expedition. The buffs that will stack long term are what I'm doing expedition for. At least for me.

    The skill points stack

You don’t need to hoard, you can sell. The skill points are honestly the top reason for me, I only got one bonus one though. I started the game a week ago. Also it’s kind of nice to reset, my gf is annoyed that I no lifed the game without her. I am 46 rn and she’s level 9.

You started a week ago and you’re lvl 46, doing the expedition, and think it’ll be nice to reset? Jesus fucking Christ man…. A week??

I started just under two weeks ago, got to lvl 75 on Thursday and just now hit the 5mil mark to get the full skill point bonus for Expedition.

I haven’t no-lifed a game like this probably since the first tried out Tarkov, except for MAYBE Elden Ring.

Loot every container you’ll come out with a new level every round

Yeah I played 53 hours. I haven’t been this focused on a game in a long time

Same. I filled up the pod and thought I was set, mildly annoyed with some of the grinding involved but whatever. Then heard the 5M and went nah, not doing that.

The issue isn't that it required 5 million, its that this "best gear" isn't worth its price tag.

The best way to make money should be to spend money (using kits), not stockpiling from budget runs

I don't mind hoarding good gear, but knowing I'm hoarding them to reach the 5mil value instead to complete the expedition is sad. I like hoarding them so that I have plenty of reserves to use when I die with some, but now I have to save those reserves.

I'd prefer for the end of season to be the time to bring out the big guns... Give us objectives to kill Arcs or something. I'm baffled that there wasn't a single quest or objective in the game for killing the matriarch. Did I miss one? It would make sense to add to the end of an expedition to have destroyed the biggest threat...

I don't know. I'm just disappointed by how this all feels like it was planned at the last minute and there's nothing even related to the quests either.

Nothing prior in terms of ingame achievements matters. You had either hoarded a lot of stuff and were close to the number they are asking for already or be damned to farm runs. It took a lot of momentum out of the game for me! It is still one of the best Multiplayer games, but this decision with having to have 5 million on the side and not play the items in your stash of you want to go onto the expedition is just stupid and not a fun gameplay loop for me!

All I want to do today is run around juiced and scrap. Let me blow my inventory and have a ball.

Oh wait, that's right. No fun allowed if you want to wipe.

The skill points are the least important part of the expedition.

So you decided not to reset because the rewards aren’t worth it? The reward is doing it again. That’s the whole reason to reset. Other extraction games don’t give you anything for it, in fact most force you to do it regardless. You’re not working toward anything in this game if not for the expedition.

I did it for Scrappy’s new hat. Everything else is a bonus.

This right here. I would have done the reset even with out skill points. Even if you don't get any skill points you still get rewarded with bonuses for your next play through. Just do the wipe anyway and start with all the knowledge you have gained. Maybe 5mil will be easy next go round

Its also easy to hoard when the epic guns are so terrible lol

Genuine question, if not adding value to your stash, what IS the point of this game? I'm lacking a reason to login and play. I managed to get to 3M net value. While I'm still signed up for the expedition, not sure how much I'm playing after. I think this is a much bigger question, what is the point to the extraction shooters. I managed to get a lot more hours and fun into Contractors Showdown exfil mode (VR I know, but same basic principle).

Now that game is in a ore-wipe stage right now for everyone, but with that there's zero reason to login. So in that regard, I do see some benefit to this expedition cost thing, but the overall plight picture is the same. Currently, the largest difference between the two is the fights. I enjoy them far more in a game like Contractors or even Arena Breakout. I'm unsure why, though. Sorry for the ramble, genuinely curious as to any input others may have.

Because it completely defeats the purpose of the game. What is the point of self destroying progression and saving all the valuable gear just to do it again? It’s actually disrespecting your own time just for some shitty perks and cosmetics.

You clearly don't know how many hours you spend managing your inventory. 12 more slots won't eliminate that of course, but it's not nothing, and over time it adds up with more expeditions. If they keep this system, that is.

Yeah the annoying part too is they upped it from 750k last minute. (Probably misreading the room of how much time the average person want to put in.)

It's the second time they've done one of these knee jerk reactions last minute. On Stella montis release they had a donation quest they changed the requirement to 10x as much after it got off to an early start. The results map wasn't released for over 24 hours later after it was announced. What a goose egg that was, I planned the day off to enjoy the map, noticed a bunch of streamers had plans around it. Nah. We all just had to stare at a meaningless progress bar for another day and a half.

It's the most worrisome thing about Embark so far imo. Them doing these last minute adjustments where they seem to wildly misread the interest and numbers.

And don't get me started on them making the announcements so late so people can't plan properly...

They never provided official numbers before the 5 million requirement and only had set placeholders values solely visible If you would change your system time.

I don't know why people took those values serious.

They took it serious because Embark didn't do the minimum and communicate how expeditions would work sooner. So people were grasping at straws because planning helps in these games. And they did try to communicate it, months ago in fact, but they left out too much info.

And use some common sense 750k was not just some random "placeholder" it was shipped into the live patch and it's in the ball park of 1 mil. It obviously it was consideration. Sure anytime something is data mined you gotta factor that in but I didn't anyone taking about being upset that they planned for 750, it was mostly just people saying 750 would have been better.

Are you really so set on 1 million? I think alot of the community for a far range of play styles, grinders to casual think 1 million was a bad choice. Many people missed the mark and it created a poor game state that disencentivised playing with gear and just selling everything you find.

750k seems like it would have been a much better number in comparison at this point. That's why we're looking at the value seriously.

While I managed to hit the 5 million, I don't defend the 1 million per skillpoint. I would be happy If the expedition would be more available for casual players and I hope they change it for the next run into more complex requirements like cost reduction via actual gameplay achievements (lvl 75, quests completed, workbenches completed, X player kills, X damage done to Arcs, X time at the surface and so on).

Sure they could have defined and communicated the actual value earlier but I guess it got barely shipped in time and they managed to calculate values based on user data as early as they could.

But, I would never trust datamined values.

They did this so people that work during the day could also have an opportunity to contribute. I'm sorry that you took a whole day off work to play one single map rofl.

The merits being the whole reason to donate were completely pointless as it didn’t take long to get all the rewards from it. So it was an unnecessary delay you were at no disadvantage for not donating. That update was an L.

Yeah I totally don't get the hill these guys are trying to die on and I think they are misremembering the time line.

Also the "event" was click a button and lose resources. Nothing of substance. The cosmetics rewards coulda still be rolled out in many other ways.

Gamers are becoming drug addicts at this point, going out of their way for pixels

Let’s not pretend these game companies don’t hire psychologists or refer to their work for game design. They’re all about dopaminergic gameplay loops and I’m generally indifferent until the fomo comes out and then I consider it toxic.

That’s nonsense. Different time zones exist you can’t cater to any one specific zone. They miscalculated how fast things would progress and then adjusted. There’s nothing more complicated than that about it. Plenty of streamers had been streaming for 10 hours before the adjustment was made and it was only changed when they were all complaining about it.

  • I agree I think it's terrible game design decision in an otherwise amazingly designed game. The fact that I can't burn my stash I've been building before the wipe without penalizing myself is fucking stupid.

Well you can, if you build up the 5mil in coins first. But at that point you’re probably sick of the game and don’t even want to play it anymore.

Also the gameplay loop required to maximize stash value isn’t very fun IMO. Having time limits on individual rounds is fun. Having real world deadlines with skill point fomo is not.

I hit 5m a few days ago and I honestly forgot how to play in any other way than being a loot goblin.

I was always a loot goblin, the 5m goal just made me into a more conservative one. The only real change in my gameplay was downgrading from Looter 3 + a renegade to Looter 2 + a Ferro IV.

Which coincidentally is probably going to be my primary load out for a hot minute after the reset

I think you should value the cosmetics and other bonuses more than the skill points, considering the majority of skills aren’t noticeable. Don’t let FOMO for something so inconsequential control you.

Don't get me wrong I don't think 5 extra skill points is going to make a lick of difference. But it does bother me that I'm not going to get all 5 unless I grind up another 600k today and I just don't have it in me. I just think it was a really poor decision for embark to make.

  • They need to rework the expedition tbh, instead of playing loot hoard simulator it should be based off value of what you extracted with.

Or even what you load in with. A tally of risked value would be a good way to incentivize using high value equipment.

Rewarding people for actually USING their loot would help all the free geared guys afraid to lose anything before the expedition

  • Full-time employment, 2 young kids and a wife. Ive been able to squeeze more time into this game than other titles recently.

I agree that the 5 mill cap has hit hard... Im around 3.8 mill right now and will be happy if I get to 4 mill. Honestly Im not even worried about the skill points, of course they help but its not everything in this game. Im most excited to start the journey over again as a more experienced player.

However I do agree that Embark needs to set a clear path for the next expedition so all players understand what it will take to complete it. Instead of slowly leaking bits out as we got closer.

Feel like I'm in a similar boat, part time work but I'm a disability dad too. I'm shooting for 3 at the moment. I know the bonus skills will build up over rotations so I don't mind not getting all of them

Honestly, I've enjoyed the challenge and the urgency of the end of season, really trying to maximise what I get from each raid and clearing all my keys.

I haven't gone to the point of running total trash loadouts, but I certainly haven't taken out my very best stuff. The challenge of being economical and getting the most out of a renegade and a stack of triggers before you lose them is quite fun. That said, it really would have been nice to roll out my Bobcats, Vulcanos, Wolfpacks and deadlines for the end of the season.

  • The Communication for the requirement two weeks before was the Problem. For the next Expedition it will be easy to Farm 5 Million value. You will have enough time to get it.

They shouldn't even do value though.

Like there's at least 5 other better ways to make players grind out gameplay that doesn't involve hoarding gear or money.

    5000 player scalps.

Bro before the Expedition requirement came out nobody put their best gear out lol

I had a buddy that went in stacked even when playing with a new friend that wasn't very good. He didn't care about loosing the loot, he just wanted to play with the best gear he had.

When the Expedition requirements were announced he stated, and I quote, "that's a nice kick in the dick for having fun in a video game".

Ppl def would be using it now if it didn’t count for skill points. I mean, do you think ppl would reset w bobcat 4s in their stash wo this requirement? Ppl would be burning through their good gear

It's not about time to get the 5M. The problem of the 5M requirement is it forces players to hoard items and cash instead of bringing their best gear into raids and having fun.

Indeed, I've been doing free or basic kit runs to go in, farm cash and get out. Not touched decent gear since the 5m came out.

Even if they inform the players, it’s still not very fun. Everyone would just feel like they need to hoard and save everything of value for weeks.

This creates another issue of hoarding gear though. There’s nothing fun about looting gear and not using it because of a wipe mechanic you want to participate in.

    There are 2 possible fixes:

    1. If they want to stick to a loot value requirement then the loot should be things that are unusable (items that can be recycled but have no use beyond that). This helps prevent hoarding weapons and gear that you’d otherwise want to use.

    2. Create a different method to obtain the extra 5 skill points that involves a goal that is different from the previous steps. Currently every step in the process is donating gear and I think we can all agree it’s not exactly exciting.

They should just make it total value extracted over the course of the wipe. They already know how much we go in with and how much we come out with.

It’s still bad design for an extraction shooter. Tying value to wipe benefits in a genre where you typically don’t want to build value, you just want to spend it.

This is really where the pain point is. Not knowing much earlier was a big problem especially with the amount of resources required to fill the expedition steps. Next time around should be much easier as people will know that near the next window to keep that 5 mil handy.

Ah yes because the next season is going to be so fun hoarding from day 1

Knowing it will be 5mil would make it easier, sure, but that assumes that playtime is not going to drop. I personally assume I’m not going to be as obsessive in the future and just return for events.

So why are you worried about wiping then?

No it's just bad design for an extraction shooter unless your frozen with gear fear and would never run your loot anyways.

  • It's just simply too much. It's need to be in either 250k or 500k increments. I don't even know how you would get to 5mil do they expect you to sell thousands of blueprints for credits?

  • I AGREE I will do this once but if this is how the expeditions are going to be I'm out

  • The last few days were weird, and kind of killed the vibe. I enter the match, sprint towards a loot spot to load my bags, and run back. I don't care if anyone hears me being loud, I don't care if I am seen by the entire lobby, I don't care if there is an extraction camper. It is faster to die and restart if you get killed than waste time sneaking around.

When you play atmospheric games, you immerse yourself in the game's world, and suspend disbelief. But there is a red line, and once you cross it, it ruins the entire illusion. The 5 mil grind is the red line.

  • Yeah, it's just too much at the wrong time of year with very little notice.

hit the nail on the head well said

  • 100% agreed. I only just hit 5M last night, I am expediting, but I will likely drop the game if this is the future schtick embark goes with for expeditions with this game.

I have so much loot I was looking forward to eventually actually using a few times before expedition… but the coin limitation not only made me just use free loadouts the past few weeks, but I’m not utilizing any of the games economy.

Its purposely limiting us from actually utilizing the game. Its dumb and frustrating not rewarding.

  • Ya it’s a terrible concept. I’ve done nothing but run a free kit for 2 weeks. It’s boring.

  • This 5million crap was a stupid decision by embark devs

  • Completely agree. 200k left today and I won't do it again. It is ruining the game, for me. Not only am i running around not do anything fun, so many others are doing the same. I know it is not required, but they can make it less or change it completely.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong... But isn't this expedition mechanic meant to keep people who played a massive amount on equal ground with people who have not?

For instance, I'm around level 56 and have a handful of purple guns. Hell one of my benches isn't even fully upgraded. There is no way in hell this expedition was meant for me and I know that.

  • I don’t care about the amount. It’s just degraded the game because it was announced last minute.

And then this close to reset I’m basically handing out venators like Christmas gifts.

  • I am not doing the expedition because of this but I don't really mind. TBF I don't mind them making it quite steep. The idea of the expedition is for hardcore players so they can start the grind again and have a goal in the game.
It's not needed to do the expedition because the buffs aren't that strong, which I am happy about. It's a nice little extra if you have the time and want to put in the effort, but if you don't it's not like you are immediately lagging behind players who did do the expedition.

I don't feel any FOMO either for not doing the expedition. I am going to try and finish the caravan and prepare for the next expedition in a few months :)

I’ve got a similar attitude except I am doing the expedition. I made 2 million and decided to be happy with that. I’m at level 57. I haven’t even maxed out the original stat points, what do I care about not getting the full 5 extra? I like unlocking new stuff, so it’ll be fun to wipe. Maybe next time I’ll try to max it, but I really don’t feel any pressure to get to 5 million this time

Hey everyone look! A normal mindset towards it all!

  • There;s no way they keep the same system again, it's absolutely killed my enthusiasm.

  • Some people say the short notice was the problem. But it's just bad gameplay having to save 5 million next season as well thinking we might need it for the expedition, it's just hoarding gear. If they make it so it's the total amount you've got all season and you've secured that people who played a bunch get the 5 points and there's no hoarding gear. There were other ideas people had that were way better than just requesting you save 5 million in value.

  • If that stays Ill just ignore it. Not worth to hoard ur gear instead of use it, just for few additional points that wont make difference anyway. Right now Im happy with my 2m.

I hope they rethink how this work

  • I agree. The final week or so before the expedition leaves should be our chance to go all out. Enjoy all the stuff we've gathered, use the fancy stuff without worrying about losing it. Instead, I'm doing run after running with nothing but a looting mk1 augment, hitting a few spots, then extracting once I get around 35-40kish value. All the Bobcats and Vulcano's and high-end stuff I sold, never used most of them, even the blueprints I am finding I just sell, they are worth more as 5k than they are as a crafting item. This is poor game design, and I've already decided I'm not doing this again; this will be my one and only expedition if the system remains in place as is.

  • I'm also not a fan of this and makes no sense. They were already going to wipe the items. We already spent close to a million in items to the expedition project. The SPs should be the prestige reward with the other buffs. I'm gonna get to 3 mil if i can then stop.

  • I started working towards finishing the project but looking at the comments turned me off. Once a game becomes a grind/chore, it is not fun anymore.

I am back to doing normal raids and having fun with friends.

  • I feel like they could’ve made this so much easier by making the trinkets actually worth picking up. Like rare pink trinkets sell for what 10k max? It’s insane. They should make trinkets actually worth something more to entice players in keeping them over hoarding guns and over things

  • Reinforces free kits ratting extracts too. Dogshit design choices.

  • We’re not all supposed to get to 5 mil. That’s for the sweats

  • i dont wanna sound bitter or anything. but the day they announced the 5mil is the day i stopped enjoying the game. and out of the people i played with, it seemed to be the same way for many. I wanted to go for stupid risky stuff with my friends. but obviously noone really wants to do that now cause they wanna keep their money.
If they dont make a change for the next expedition i dont think ill play this game any longer

  • Agreed, the beginning felt cool like a scavenger hunt. Forcing us to be frugal with all our money and grind feels like too much.

  • I don't understand the people complaining. Can't you enjoy a game without maxing out every reward?

    > I cant imagine how you guys feel with kids, wife and a job

I can't speak for all of them, but I am fine with other players having more time to spend and achieving rewards I don't. I have so many hobbies, gaming is just one of them. And the 1-3 times a week I want to spend on gaming, I don't even want to play the same game over and over. I leave the max rewards to the pro's. They also need something to achieve.

Some people literally can't and they treat games they play like a chore. I have no clue why, maybe it's an ego thing, maybe it's an obsessive compulsion, either way it sounds miserable.

  • i think if i knew i would need 5m the whole season. it would have been easier and less burdensome to gather it. it only felt like shit because the news came pretty late. thats my take anyway

  • This thread is why we can’t have nice things.

They did something different from most extraction shooters and gave you an ‘optional’ wipe not mandatory. Still moaning.

    Boosted blueprint drops. Still moaning.

2 free battle passes. Yep, still moaning.

Dished out peoples loadouts when cheaters or exploiters were found. …..still…….moaning.

Aside from all of that they gave us a phenomenal game with a clear roadmap and micro transactions are all reasonably priced and all cosmetic. It’s beginner friendly and there is there is almost no way to be out geared and owned by people with purples. Free kits have kept the game busy at all times…..mega moaning.

In all games that have grinds there is usually some sort of incentive for the people who have grinded more than others. In this case it’s 5 skill points which are an exceptionally minor reward….

Stop fucking moaning and have a lovely Christmas!

Hey you know you can still criticize a game even if other parts are good, right?

Can't believe how far I had to scroll for this take. The whole point of the expedition is for a wipe. Not sure why so many people are bent out of shape and acting like they HAVE to grind for 5mil, or play in a way that "ruins the game". There will be more expeditions.

All those things you mentioned are completely irrelevant to the bad incentive presented by the expedition system, the thing actually being “moaned” about.

Philosophical question: When one moans about moaning that isn’t happening, who is the moaner?

  • I almost totally stopped playing because of this grind. 135 hours pre-grind. About 10 hours total since the grind started. It’s absolutely ruined my motivation to play. I’ll be walking away with 2 points because I just didn’t care for this type of gameplay at all. I work a full time job and have a busy personal life but took every opportunity to play before this. After though, I’ve opted to play other games most of the time because this is not at all what I enjoy with this type of game.

Had they told us about the requirement a month sooner, I may have put more effort but the time from the announcement of the amount to the time of departure really made me change how I played and it was not even remotely enjoyable.

I really hope this changes for the next departure because I’m certain this kind of grind will kill the game for me next year.

  • I’ll admit to being reasonably stoned as I type this, but isn’t one of the more obvious solutions to hugely increase the reward for damaging ARC’s?

Not just in terms of loot, but just straight XP, with an increasingly difficult mountain to climb for fully dedicated players with cosmetic rewards?

  • The game turned into a min max strategy and strictly pve. Find ways to load up quick with valuable loot and loot. I haven't fired a shot at another player in over a week and maybe 75 runs. I was never a shoot first person, but it's crazy how rare it is now. Players have maybe gotten too comfortable. While this is great for the farming side, it is also something that is taking away from the original game. I also find myself only playing the 2X maps just to try to hit 75 before expedition too, which sucks there's so many unlucky at the last couple levels. Feel like they should unlock them all if you do expedition at a reward since you would need to play a lot to even get the money.

Start shooting people and you'll be put in PvP lobbies. Not that hard...

  • So dumb, im not even attempting it. I dont want to lose any blueprints

  • Wow another one of these threads

  • I agree that expeditions should be more dynamic, with a change to make them feel less rushed and more fun to do.

  • Yeah honestly I just gave up
I don't want to grind like this and I don't want to play if I lose everything so I'm just waiting for the expedition window. I'll have only 1 skill point, it's fine.

  • Its only been a drag because it was a short notice thing for most of us.

  • Don't do it then..

  • Yeah, I'll never do the expedition if it means I have to save everything of value. Free load outs aren't very much fun.

Then bring a looting 2 and a couple upgraded gray guns it’s not rocket science dude.

I didn't say it was rocket science or even difficult. I said it's not fun. Using the beginner stuff while keeping all your good items stashed away isn't what looting games are supposed to be about. It turns the endgame into a tedious chore.

thats not the point and you know it. Whats the point in bringing good gear, when no one else is doing the same?

  • Screw the extra points.

There is no essential skill you can't have with the 76 original skill points. Most any to be had over that are trash.

  • What’s it like only having the one game to play?

  • This truly sucks, I’m halfway to 3mil and just don’t even care or want to play anymore. It’s killed it for me trying to randomly be the first one to high value loot locations.

  • u dont have to do it

  • You guys complain about everythingggg.

I have a toddler, a pregnant wife, a house that requires a lot of work and a full time job, i only play Friday and Saturday night from 10pm-1am. I was able to grind 700k in 3 hours of stella montis blood baths Friday night. The 5mil really is not that much.. it should only take about 20 hours of game time to get that much coin.

I have a mil for this launch. Feel good about it. I’ll miss 4 skill points, for a skill tree that is mostly worthless. Breathe. It will be ok

  • U don't have to do it

  • 1 skill point if you completed quests 1 skill point if you have trials 1 skill point if you have 1 million un your bank...etc

  • The logic was that “you don’t have to do it”. Problem is just humans don’t like to miss out in social games. A full reset for everyone would have been easier to swallow, because it affects everyone. Now 30% think they are missing out on competing, not getting the skin etc. … I even have one friend that told me it destroyed his motivation to continue playing it because of th missing 5 skill points.

I think a big issue with the expedition isn't the expedition itself it's the rest of the game.

Because if you are not doing the expedition and the 5 million what other long term goal are you working towards? The game currently does not provide anything like that so people focus on the expedition even if they should not.

My long term goals are to have fun and not stress myself out. I can do both without expedition fomo.

Quite literally the reason I stopped playing. Trials is a dogshit boring system. Bosses are a waste of time. And if all that’s left is PvP, why would I put the time and effort into this game when I can instantly get PvP matches in CoD/BF/whatever without all the extra crap.

Disagree, trials are fun as hell and it was VERY hard making it to daredevil 1. You really have to learn the ins and puts of the game and use a lot of strategy to max them out.

I think there are plenty of ways Embark could address this without always having reset of some type.

    • expiring limited use blueprints - anything above level 2
    • more challenging quests for extra skill points
    • quests that require at least duo to complete.
    • Expanded skill trees. 2 more branches to the tree could make things interesting and allow for higher leveling and skill progression
    • Increased ARC presence.
    • Ticks are everywhere. Hanging out in trees and bushes and they can roam the entire map. Could be a hundred or more all over the map. They could detect raiders hiding in bushes. They can't alert others but can still attack. Raiders hide in areas for reasons, and this could make it more challenging.

I am sure there are lots of things they could added to limit the full on grindfest it takes to get to 5 million and the other requirements. Hopefully they look more into that in the future.

Everyone can feel the way they want about things. I disagree about the forced reset. I can't play to the degree where i max out every season, nor would I want to try at the cost of me enjoyment of the game or the rest of my life.  I would get very tired of having feeling like I was forced to lose progress. Sorry your friend got bummed out. Skill points can be very nice but it's not the end of the world with all the other stuff you get.  Other people I knew just got more excited and even got to 5 mil.

  • just don't get the 5 bonus points, it's not that hard. I swear everyone here is always whining and freaking out if they can't easily complete everything. Half the sub whines about the skill tree not even really doing much and 5 points is worthless anyway.

  • They really killed the hype of this of this game with this. They were definitely overthinking how to balance expedition rewards with fair play. Now everyone is burnt out from it.

  • Yeah this games been so boring lately, literally no point of playing until after wipe

  • The "it's optional" argument is kind of a copout and is missing the main criticism for me personally. I don't mind having to grind in some way. It just feels antithetical to the genre. Hoarding or selling all your loot sucks.

  • The 5 million value should be total value extracted with over a period of time.

  • The difference is next time there won't be a 2 week notice. This first expedition was a disaster but future ones won't be.

Nah not the problem. I will 100% be running cheap load outs all season if this mechanic holds. I and most others will just never use high tier loot if im going to be expected to have 5 mil ready every season. It really defeats the purpose of even having a wipe if Im incentivized to not use my expensive rare loot ever
