  • I'm a little stuck on "three" guide rods for the Kobra.

    That's the confusing part. I am also interested if z axis is using roller wheels?

  • To break it down simply. Y axis is front to back, x axis is side to side and z axis is up and down. Printers that use the core xy system move the bed down each layer and usually have at minimum 2 z rods controlling the motion with many having 3 or 4 of them. The kobra 3 series and kobra X move the bed back and forth along the y axis and are commonly called bed slingers due to that motion. The z axis only needs to advance the x axis rail and therefore 2 rods is ideal. There wouldn't be a use case for a third rod. In fact having dual z rods is an advancement in the industry as many older machines only had 1

    To embellish just a little, the kobra x likely uses the same system as the kobra 3, where there is 1 motor controlling 1 z axis rod with a pulley on top. A belt connects to the slave z rod and keeps them in step. I have a printer with true dual z axis (Anker m5c) and it's worse than the belt drive system.
