When I got attacked while walking around, my shell's durability and MY HP both decrease simultaneously. I'd like to know how this works and how many numbers willl it lose ?

Secondly, I'd like to ask about the shell I use as a weapon. It transforms into a large hammer. What determines the hammer's attack power? Is it based on the shell's defense, HP, or weight?

  • When you get hit, a portion of the damage, equal to the shells defense, is dealt to the shell instead. For example, with 50 defense, you take half the damage and the shell takes the other half. But before the shell takes damage, the shell damage taken is reduced by an amount relative to the resistance stat.

Hammer attack power is solely dependent on shell defense. Bigger number=more damage. Each time you hit something with the hammer, the hammer shell loses durability equal to 10-(0.5 x resistance). So at 20 resistance, your hammer will no longer lose durability and break.

20 Resilience definitely seems to be the breakpoint for sure.

I personally didn't notice much difference between 20 and 30 Resilience. I think by that point your shell already takes basically no chip damage from blocking from the overwhelming majority of enemies.

Also this is why the glass-type shells are kinda hot garbage in my opinion. Their only gimmick is their ridiculously high DEF stats. Their high DEF stats mean they take a greater portion of your damage received which, combined with their ridiculously low durability, means they will break within a few hits (even 30 Resilience isn't enough to prevent them from breaking). Sure, you can be literally invincible with Champagne Flute + Barnacle, but that won't last long.

You can't use those shells as hammers either to take advantage of their high DEF stats for greater damage.

  • I think you lose HP and shell durability when attacked because both you and the shell are getting hit. Krill ain't very big so it makes sense that attacks would damage both him and his shell. no clue if that's really why tho, I'm just spitballin

as for your second question, I don't know. I'd like to know myself but I never really noticed a difference in damage between hammers

  • I don't have the deep knowledge so someone can correct me but I believe a.) the shell provides armor, not invincibility. Each shell has the armor value (the little blue shield number), and that value reduces each hit.

For the hammers, I'm not sure what the damage values are but the speed is determined by if it's a small, medium, or large shell. I would guess the damage is similar but from my gameplay experience I didn't notice a huge increase or decrease with shell size, the only thing that really fazed me was the heavy shells have a crazy delay on the 2nd hit that makes it impractical.

  • I believe hammer Damage is based on the Shell's DEF stat, how fast you can swing is based on weight and it's durability depends on the Shell's health and your RES
