Sometimes it's not too bad say an hour. Other times it can be a while...
Basically just because someone got hit doesn't mean they died as a result meaning its a lot quicker to get going. At the other end, someone getting struck could be in many parts and pieces some of which are stuck up under the train somewhere. The train won't move until they find all the bits, do the paperwork, and get clearance.
Acela 2253 hit and knocked down a power line just outside of Boston (around Ruggles Stations for anyone who knows). No trains are moving in or out of Boston for the forseeable future we are waiting for a commuter rail so we can board that and head back to Boston.
i’m on 2253, Downed power line outside my window lol. We’re not getting out of here anytime soon the workers look very concerned and don’t seem to know how to get us off the train with an exposed wire ontop of it
This website is helpful for keeping an eye on your train’s progress. Keep in mind that the estimated arrival times are just that: estimated. There’s good chance your train will make up some of that time and could arrive a little bit earlier than the current projected time.
I cancelled my ticket a little while ago
Odds of getting a refund?
It said that I forfited my fair back
When I have actual time tomorrow I'll give 1-800 rail a call
If your train was significantly delayed, you may have been able to change to a different one for free in the app or on the website. Though if the corridor is shut down, that may not have helped you anyway.
Cancelling outright, and accepting the forfeit of your fare, is probably not going to work out for you tbh but Amtrak CS is more forgiving than airlines' so give it your best shot!

Thanks for the heads up.
Been sitting at Moynihan headed to Philly not moving for the last hour.
Update:
We’re currently headed from Moynihan to Newark. Not sure if the way to Philly is open yet? Anyone know?
On the Acela 2251. we’re moving with some speed restrictions ahead
Thank you!
I’m on NEC 88 - conductor just announced we’re being held here at the Philadelphia station due to this incident. Service currently suspended.
We’re slowly moving again on 88 heading north.
Horrible to see this! I’m on 82 northbound. We have been parked in Philly for about an hour.
Heard at moynihan: apparently the whole nec is shutdown💀
Checked here immediately after hearing this too. How long does this typically take to clear up?
Depends on the situation and location.

Train 82: we are moving
Supposed to board 82 in Stamford, any estimates on your progress? Glad to hear 82 is on the move!
Slow moving but moving - we were there for an hour forty five probably. Man feel bad for whoever got struck.
Thanks! Trying to plot our arrival to the station.

If you click on your train number it will give you estimates. If I recall right you’re going to be riding 82? Here’s current info for 82:

We just got to Newark
That's the 2nd trespasser strike in two days for SEPTA. They hit somebody yesterday in their own territory by Morton in Delaware County.
