Learn what? The U.S. is an older power and reached industrial exhaustion and the formation of a middle class much earlier. China is only just starting down that path and already shows signs of exhaustion, although it clearly has more room to maneuver. The U.S. has far greater presence worldwide, and China struggles to enter new markets, even though it is managing to do so. Both countries are following the same path, politically as well: both are increasing authoritarianism and repression. What is supposed to be copied? And why have such mediocre aspirations? Those who don’t take comfort simply don’t want to.
