🇺🇸 1927: Just 23 years after the Wright brothers became the First in Flight, another American—Charles Lindbergh—became the first man to fly solo and nonstop across the Atlantic.

Yeah and FDR and many others had open admiration for Hitler and the Nazi party and it was reciprocal. The “American First” committee was anti-interventionist, but not inherently pro-Nazi, but its opponents framed it to look as if you were pro-Nazi, if you didn’t support entering WWII.

    3 points vaultboy1121

I’m not really sure if you read literally anything I said, but yes, a large part of the country were actually quite fond of Nazi’s in the 30’s. This all ended after we entered WWII. Lindbergh even voiced his support for the war (against the Nazi’s) eventually.

    parent root
    3 points CrusaderZero6

“This all ended after we entered WWII.”

Let’s just ignore that people tried to overthrow the government to replace it with fascists, that we gave all the fascist scientists we could lay our hands on top positions within government, and that the current Secretary of “War” has Nazi tattoos.

    parent root
    1 points vaultboy1121

    Was Lindbergh part of that?

    parent root
    2 points CrusaderZero6

The business plot? He absolutely was. He also toured the Third Reich extensively and spoke on its behalf at functions all over America.

After the war he stayed incredibly active in aviation, where he worked closely with a whole lot guys with thick accents who’d also spent a lot of time adoring a failed painter.

Did not Nazi that coming from Linderbergh huh.

Instead of agitating for war, the Jewish groups in this country should be opposing it in every possible way.

Their greatest danger to this country lies in their large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government

I am saying that the leaders of the Jewish race wish us to enter the war for reasons which are not American.

The three most important groups who have been pressing this country toward war are the British, the Jewish, and the Roosevelt Administration.

This is absolutely not true. Educate yourself on who he was and what he said and did.

    parent root
    4 points theInevitableNewtype

He was definitely for staying out of the war. Which would have helped the Nazi’s win the war in Europe.

Lindberg was even presented with the Service Cross of the German Eagle on behalf of Adolf Hitler.

So I guess “technically” you’re right. However, the world would be very different now and NOT for the better.

    parent root
    3 points greed-man

"I'm not a Nazi. But I meet with Hitler whenever he summons me."

    parent root
    7 points V3gasMan

In the months before the United States entered World War II, Lindbergh's non-interventionist stance and statements about Jews and race led many to believe he was a Nazi sympathizer. Lindbergh never publicly stated support for the Nazis and condemned them several times in both his public speeches and personal diary, but associated with them on numerous occasions in the 1930s. He also supported the isolationist America First Committee and resigned from the U.S. Army Air Corps in April 1941 after President Franklin Roosevelt publicly rebuked him for his views.[7] In September 1941, Lindbergh gave a significant address, titled "Speech on Neutrality", outlining his position and arguments against greater American involvement in the war.[8]

Lindbergh considered Russia a "semi-Asiatic" country compared to Germany, and he believed Communism was an ideology that would destroy the West's "racial strength" and replace everyone of European descent with "a pressing sea of Yellow, Black, and Brown". He stated that if he had to choose, he would rather see America allied with Nazi Germany than Soviet Russia. He preferred Nordics, but he believed, after Soviet Communism was defeated, Russia would be a valuable ally against potential aggression from East Asia.[226][231]

These paragraphs above are from his wikipedia. One should note there is an entire section of it dedicated to his anti-Semitism and political beliefs.

There’s a reason he didn’t fight in Europe and he fought in the pacific. He may have also killed his own child. After which he went to Germany and fathered several children through various affairs. He was friends with Alexis Carrel and they worked on the perfusion pump together. The reasoning of this may have been based on their shared support for eugenics. Alexis is known supporter of eugenics and several of Lindberghs speeches and talks reflect white supremacy ideology. While he may not have been a “Nazi” he certainly shared many of their beliefs. You are the company you keep you know

Edit: some folks really aren’t capable of their worldview being challenged

    parent root

    Both him and Henry Ford.

    parent root
    -2 points greed-man

Ford was not a Nazi, per se. Just an awful anti-semite, which is what caught the Nazi's attention.

Ford did as much, or more, to fight the Nazi's than anyone else. His Willow Run factory (which went under construction in late 1940) to build B-24's eventually was cranking out one B-24 every 63 minutes, 24 hours a day. More B-24's were built than any other American aircraft, fighter or bomber, period. Not to mention the tanks, jeeps, etc.

    parent root
    3 points DieMensch-Maschine

Both Charles Lindbergh and Henry Ford accepted medals from Nazi Germany: Lindbergh got the Service Cross in 1938; Ford got the Grand Cross in the same year.

    parent root
    2 points greed-man

Ford was a virulent anti-semite. Even had a newspaper dedicated to spreading lies about Judaism. Ford was a major producer of cars and later trucks in Germany, prior to the war, starting in the mid 1920s. But he did not support or defend Hitler's attacks on nearby countries. The Ford factories were absorbed and taken over by the nation during the war.

Lindbergh was a leading part in the fascist movement of the "America First" movement, which was primarily focused on anti-Judasim and anti-interventionist ideals--even to the point of attacking our efforts pre-war to support Britain with needed supplies, and the Lend Lease program. He was seen, largely, by the public as openly supporting the Nazi movement, and resigned from the Army Air Office when Roosevelt accused him of being a supporter of the Nazi regime.

The Nazis handed out about 50 of these awards to various foreign dignitaries. Including one to James Mooney, then President of General Motors Overseas production. Opel, owned by GM, was a major producer of German cars and trucks. Their factories were also confiscated by the Nazis when war broke out. In 1940, Mooney moved to prepare GM for production of all wartime material in the US.
