The US was neutral. Selling goods to a nation at war is aligning with the nation but the US was not sending its own troops nor had they declared war on Germany. If the Germans could get past the British Navy they could have traded with the US too. The decision to start unrestricted submarine warfare and the sinking of the Lusitania were huge mistakes on Germany’s part. It’s not our fault the Germans were dumbasses.
