Most lists of the best cities to move to have the same cities over and over again. I'm looking for a city of under 50,000 people to move to. Any suggestions?
Prince Albert or Moose Jaw. Both in Saskatchewan. Both in the mid 30,000 range.
Is this post serious? How about narrowing it down to smaller cities in countries where you can gain entry and where economic survival is possible? Just an idea.
And it seems as though you already have been thinking of a route to work or business visas that would let you into Canada.
Do be aware that the prohibition on the purchase of residential housing by non Canadians (neither citizen nor permanent resident) has been extended until January 2027.
Most Canadian provinces have nice moderate sized cities. That said, they vary widely. Here are some considerations and some resources.
language - if you’re not already Francophone, small town Quebec and certain parts of New Brunswick are likely out
since you’re in the US, I assume you appreciate the reality of time zones
diversity and type of economy - some towns are one industry (farming, mining, milling, tourist etc. and some are company towns, but others that are longer settled are likely to be more diverse economically
proximity to larger centres - there are many lovely small towns in southwest and eastern Ontario that are long settled and proximate to medium sized cities and to Toronto; the same is true for the proximity of Vancouver Island towns to Victoria and Vancouver on the mainland.
your political views - as in the US, many rural and small town locations tend to be more conservative and populist, moreso from northern Ontario westwards.
health services availability - provincial government are putting priority on attracting health care workers but some communities have severe physician shortages.

Swift Current over those two for sure!
Yes, survival is definitely a goal. I didn't think that I needed to state that.
You didn't state much.
It sounds like you bumped into a negative nellie.

I mean it depends on where you have the right to move to. I can live in the UK, so I would say Inverness.
Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, Central America? How will you support yourself? Do you speak a language besides English?
I speak Spanish and Portuguese and I work online in mental health.
Do you plan to do online US-based work or work locally wherever you end up?
And if US-based is your employer (if not self-employed) good with you working in another country?
I am moving to the jungle in Costa Rica, pop. 5000
Ok, here you go: Freiburg im Breisgau. I'd live here.
If you like it warmer, go for Sitges in Spain
Any in Belize?
Every south island town in NZ except Christchurch (400k) and Dunedin (100k) is under 50k in population.
Dunedin feels like under 50k when uni kids leave for breaks.
Invercargill and Nelson are above 50k
yea but barely
Invecargill 51200 and Nelson 50800
There are many options on the north island, as well.
My wife and I aim to live in Taupo eventually, but we will be living in Tokoroa for the time being.
Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.
District Lüchow-Dannenberg in Germany. See it as an insider tip. It's full of beautiful villages, slavic Rundlings, lakes, forests and rural living.
Oh that has the heather meadow!
What country? It's not like you can just pick.
Any town or village outside of most major cities around the world.
1) Piriapolis, Uruguay. 2) Gijon in Asturias (🇪🇸). 3) Somewhere in Puglia, Italy. 4) Andddd, Sayaluita, Nayarit (🇲🇽).
Only cuz I have watched many, many hours on YouTube about these places and places nearby.
Also, upping the country of Belize.
Also, what about the island of Curaçao?
Rauma, Finland
Cooladdi, Queensland Australia. Population 2. Highly recommended
