• Sometimes you can tell the commenters have never met a living child and this is one of those times

  • redditors love taking shit to the absolute extreme with zero logic and nuance

  • XYZ speaks volumes about their mental state... they clearly have ABC behavioral disorder...

I'm always so interested in how confident people on reddit can be about making these kinds of diagnoses from pretty typical childhood behavior, especially when they come from a population who's famously bad at clocking sarcasm.

  • An* inflatable ball.

  • These subs are often obsessed with punishing children in the sense of “I’ll take away your gifts because you broke the ball”. I’m not saying punishments are never appropriate but in cases like these, a discussion on being careful with others’ toys and maybe something like doing an extra chore around the house to “earn money” to pick out a replacement ball for the baby would likely be appropriate (and it is better that their parents lead this rather than other family members). Taking away gifts is likely to lead to resentment moreso than teaching anything valuable. Focusing on repairing the situation is often a much better idea.

Also, I would not automatically assume they broke the ball out of malice vs just being over excited playing with it and wanting to experiment, so the lesson would be to be careful playing with others’ things in the future vs “you evil sociopathic toy ball killers are likely to be murderers by tomorrow”.

  • Violence? Ummmm… more like kids doing stupid kid things. “Hey, what’s inside this thing? Let me tear it apart to see-“

No they obviously want to stab their sister and tear her flesh apart

  • They're probably serial killers around balloons. The kids will claim the balloons just pop, but no, the balloons were really stabbed, strangled or subject to violent pressure. And so difficult to prove, even if you can force a balloon inquest.

  • To be completely honest, whilst this is probably just normal behaviour with kids being kids and breaking things, I would be certainly keeping a closer eye on them given they were able to have unsupervised access to scissors. That being said I think the immediate jump to the conclusion that the kids are going to turn into Thompson and Venables if theyre not immediately rushed to therapy and made to feel evil is absurd. Redditors have never heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  • Ok sounds crazy but my neighbors kids where like this and actually did end up harming their younger sister. Definitely need to be having a talk as it could be dumb kid stuff or something worse you never know

  • Beep boop! Automod here with a quick reminder to never brigade r/AmITheAsshole or other subs under any circumstances. Brigading puts you in violation of both our rules and Reddit’s TOS, and therefore puts this sub at risk of ban. If you brigade/encourage brigading of any kind, you will be banned from participating in either sub. Satirizing of posts should stay within this sub, which means that participating directly in linked posts should either be done in good faith or not at all.
