It’s an extremely common comparison in my experience.
They don’t exactly mirror each other in sound but they both reflect being adventurous innovators in their eras while remaining at the forefront of the mainstream.
Also ya know fundamentally they’re both British Prog adjacent bands.
Thom does have a bit of Johnny Rotten's minstrel impishness to him, but they're fundamentally well-educated and well-mannered public (private) school chums. They were influenced by musicians who were influenced by punk - Stipe and Morrissey and Byrne - but yeah, they don't check that ineffable box which makes one a punk or not.
You forgot their biggest influence in the early years…. Pixies…creep, their breakthrough song was almost a pastiche of pixies and an even worse and more embarrassing steal than all those nirvana songs, Johnny Greenwood was crushingly embarrassed about the way they ripped off Pixies and admitted it publicly ,all this Floyd comparison stuff is a load of baloney imo
I've never heard it but it makes sense; pink Floyd was "distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments" per wikipedia in relation to their peers which is a similar thing you could say about Radiohead in the Kid A / OKC era
I listened to an interview a long time ago where Radiohead talked about borrowing production techniques from Pink Floyd. It’s not that surprising to see these bands talked about in the same breath. They are two of the biggest British bands ever and they both made artsy depressing pop rock for teenagers.
It was very common in the days of OK Computer, which was often directly compared to Dark Side of the Moon as a concept album about how modern life is depressing
Pink Floyd sucks. Their music puts me to sleep. So boring. I loathe their sound so much. Yuck. Radiohead rips and covers way more ground. They shred shitty pink floyd.
You can't be serious. There is not one Radiohead song that even comes close to Pink Floyd greats like Comfortably Numb, Wish you were here, Brain Damage/Eclipse...and so many more.
I loathe pink Floyd. Really. Hate their music so much. Dead serious. I know I'm in the minority. But I do, I really dislike their music. Tempo on all songs is way too slow. The music makes me cringe!
Pompous and whiny, definitely. York is also completely insufferable to listen to talk about literally anything. I can't agree that they're boring though. I think the music is really interesting.
“I’m a fan of Radiohead. They’re really good. Actually, I prefer the one before. What’s that one called? ‘The Bends,’ that’s right"
Then the stuff about floyd
Saved you a click
Who is out there comparing Radiohead to Pink Floyd? I have never heard that comparison.

Floyd isn’t “prog adjacent”, they’re prog.
They’re the slowest funk band in the world
They don't think so. Mason and Gilmore in particular don't accept that label.
It's not up to them
I can’t remember which magazine coined the phrase, but they referred to Radiohead as “Punk Floyd” when Ok Computer released.

Johnny made them watch Live in Pompeii.

Correlation does not imply causation my chum , my mother made me watch Cilla Black but I still don’t give a monkeys about that nonsense

Karma Police is most definitely inspired by the chorus in High Hopes
I haven't cared about any member of Pink Floyd's opinions since the mid 1980s.
19 what???
86? What year did Learning to Fly come out?
Radiohead is pompous, whiny and boring.
Says the person with zero musical taste.
Ha! Radiohead is not in the same league as Pink Floyd.
Correct. They’re much better.
Ha! It is clear you are trolling or are just insane.
Are you 12?

I can’t see or hear it. At all. What do you think makes the band or their music pompous and whiny?

You didn’t even try to write it in the way Roger speaks
