• people asking "why are you with 25 year old people" doesn't understand that sometimes you go to events like a wedding that have parties after...

It’s actually good to be around younger people, to talk to them, find out what they are like, what their generation is like, how they think, what they listen to, interact. Vice versa too.

Otherwise us older folk just go around saying how the youth of today are lazy, disrespectful, selfish etc.

So, surrounding yourself with them is an opportunity to learn about them.

this is the way☝🏻. i’m 46m and have never truly grown up. yes i have a career, wife and 2 daughters 18/20, but at heart im a deadhead that never grew up. all priorities in life taken care of but still enjoy live music good vibes and young energy. never stop being a kid at heart, be open minded and never EVER stop dancing 🕺

I genuinely hate this idea that we need to "grow up" I'm 32 should have a little human in a few weeks (adoption yayayay)

I love anime and gaming I've no intention of "growing up" I'll take care of what I need to take care of but assuming that's done I'll be playing wow or something like a nerd

"When I became a man I put away childish things including the fear of childishness and a desire to be very grown up" cs lewis

"Growing up" really just means taking care of your responsibilities. Such as small humans that will die without your intervention.

That tends to make many people pretty grumpy. But a lot of others are grown up and happy.

tl;dr Growing up isn't being grumpy, being grumpy is being grumpy.

Get shit done but have a laugh while doing it

So many of the “Grown ups” you remember from being young were abusive alcoholics

When I was the 22 year old at the party, I always loved when there were a few older adults there. They were usually the funniest people there and kept us from dying.

I didn't think that about younger people until I talked and interacted with them

    Glad someone said it

    Well, not my experience.

People work jobs like retail too with many younger people

This is Reddit, I doubt 80% have left their mom's basement in the past year.

  • People act like it's forbidden for different gens to interact. That's why we got older gens calling younger ones lazy, and younger gens calling older ones boomers

Imagine how I feel, I'm 20 and mainly listen to EDM and dance music, yet I've never been to a concert or a rave

(For the record, I want proper earplugs before I go to one so I don't get tinnitus)

Do it! Acceptable earplugs are $2 or less, decent earplugs for concerts are ~$30, and custom ones are $1k+, but seriously just grab some from the drug store and go to a local show. I bet you could find something for <$50 for a one-night tour stop for some underground EDM acts… Just do it!

Live music is an entirely different experience than listening at home, and it’s my favorite thing to spend money on.

I’m 40 years old and have been wearing earplugs whenever I go anywhere with loud noises (concerts mainly) for 20 years now.

Great idea, happy to hear you are protecting your hearing!

Just get some at the pharmacy

You gotta go to way more than one or make out with the speakers all night to get tinnitus. Actually I've got my last two pairs of eargasm plugs at festivals they always have discounts at shows.

Don’t listen to the other guy, please get concert earplugs before going to one, everybodies different and one show can fuck you up for life (it probably won’t but don’t risk it)

Millenials have to bridge the gap. We know what its like to be young and are figuring out what it means to be old. Gotta get along with both instead of picking a side

As has been the case for millennia.

    [deleted]

It is not creepy and this is literally where the root of the problem comes from thinking like this. It’s perfectly normal to interact with someone of any age in a gathering.

    How is it creepy?

id say its only creepy if the majority of people at the party are <21

You can interact with people without any intention to fuck them.

You're right, 20 year olds are still basically minors

    /s

    [deleted]

Wtf are you even talking about? Do you even know?

Time doesn't run in that direction lmao

You know that's the age of shagging consent right? Not interacting with..

Your mind going straight there is kind of creepy tbh

So much grass needs to be touched. If you go out in the real world and join some interest group for adults you’ll have something like an 18 year old and a 55 year old practicing Spanish together.

Or the office Christmas party. The apartment BBQ.

I remember parties in my 20s where we’d have the occasional cool person in their 40s, 50, or 60. Creep factor was a hard 0.

That trades is a great example of this you got 18-22 year old kids starting off as first years working side by side with journeymen who are 10-30+ years older than them. It’s normal what’s not normal is the only hang out with people in your age range like you are forever living in high school.

I know . We should really rethink giving them the vote. They're clearly too young .

Not everyone talking to 20 year old is trying to fuck then. Maybe evaluate your own mentals before calling out others. Because it’s weird as hell that’s the first place your mind went.

    That’s how numbers work

  • what are you doing unc

Just looking for the aux cord and my dignity nephew

Trying to save you from allowing your brain to be carved out from the rotting.

  • Wow the shade for this person hanging out with a younger crowd! 45 isn’t ancient folks!

it's not ancient but why would any 45 year old man want to do such activities with a 20-25 year old. Thats diabolical

Good lord. I’m 45 and a lot of my friends have kids that age and all my nieces and nephews etc are that age.

Stop being so paranoid and suspicious.

It just seems weird to people who spend all their time online

It’s weird to people who are fucking weirdos.

God forbid adults hang out with other adults. I’m 24, one of my closest friends is in his early 60s.

  • Only being able to hang out with people within 5 years of your age must be a young person thing because as you get older you realize it doesn't matter as much as you thought. Its like myth of complete adulthood and independence at 18 or old people being incompetent with technology or young people not understanding the world. A lot of times it's the person not the age that matters.

A lot of Gen Z seem to think it's "creepy" because of some disconnected belief that the only possible reason for you to hang out with somebody more than a few years' age gap is sexual. They don't understand how things like music scenes work, and how a lot of these hypothetical setups of people my age (40) hanging out with younger folks (20-30 year olds) come about not because someone like me approached a group of kids to hang out with me but, rather, they were a part of my scene and view "scene elders" like myself as a mentor.

Is it really "creepy" when a bunch of kids come over and I teach them how to make their own spikey, patchy clothing? Not at all, and the ones I've mentored would tell you as much. But that defies this weird stereotype Gen Z kids seem to have of such hangouts.

IMHO it’s the whole isolated phone online life. They freak themselves out completely spinning shit up in their head. As opposed to going out and finding all sorts of peeps and figuring out how to navigate an interaction with them and learn real life social cues.

Most of them have zero unique personalities. All of them are paper machet copies of the popular reels they are constantly not only just watching, but making them a part of their entire identity by referencing them, over and over. They have the attention span of 20 seconds, IF you're lucky. They literally behave like they have amnesia. There should be no surprise to how GenZ is behaving. They've been conditioned to behave like this.

  • Y'all complaining about a 45 yo being with early-20s clearly never went to rock and metal themed partys and small band concerts in a bar. Or the small rock Christmas party I wanna go to in a few days. Every age is present there, all just have fun, and everyone is treated with respect.

Or is this an American thing that generations have to stay separated at any cost or else iT's ToTaLlY wEiRd AnD cReEpY‽

I have been to a lot of such shows and this is indeed the case! Also I am like 30 and I get along really well with older people I have a biking buddy that's got like 15 years on me

It’s some WEIRD younger gen thing in America for sure. I’m 45 (or 46 now? I don’t remember) and have been super successful in creative industry my whole life.

As soon as I hit my 40s the fresh-out-of-school kids acted like I was a dinosaur. I tried to get involved in a way to pass my EXTENSIVE AND HARD EARNED KNOWLEDGE down but they almost all acted like I had expired.

I found it offensive and annoying.

So I said Fuck It and retired. Let them learn the hard way how to build your own company in a crazy competitive environment.

Maybe it's America specific, but it's definitely been a thing for a while. The unofficial slogan of the 60s was "don't trust anyone over 30"

and then those people grew up and voted for a cheeto.........

Here's the thing, as far as GenZ is concerned, metal/rock is dead. So they aren't surrounding themselves in healthy environments. They are being swayed to partake in mainstream entertainment that markets itself as "indie" or "hipster" and most of them are too gullible to even realize they are being duped.

I'm Gen Z (21) and I won't deny that there are a lot of Gen Z like this, but a lot of us are still into live music, putting on shows and doing things in our communities in general. I'm in a band that does mostly 60s covers (Hully Gully, Mountain of Love, Hang on Sloopy, etc.) and all of my friends are really into it. The internet definitely impacts a lot of people, but a lot of us are acutely aware of how social media affects our lives and health and limit our social media usage or don't use social media at all. Maybe I'm a minority, but there are still Gen Z who are trying to live relatively "normal" lives.

  • Alcohol is expensive man

Which is why you buy the cheap shit and pour the entire bottle into a cooler full of Hawaiian punch.

I got a hangover just from reading this, and it's not because of the "cheap shit".

  • Don't know where you are from, but in the UK or Poland (majority of my experience) people don't have such limitations

All my life my friend circle has been varying ages, and never has ever involved sitting round and younger people listening to the older ones telling crazy stories like some people in this thread think it is! We just go to the pub, we just talk to people!

  • im "only" 26 and i see there are almost no parties anymore. everyone is just chilling on discord playing games

  • I’m more concerned you are partying with 20-25 year olds at 45.

When I was in my 20's myself and my friend group always got the older folks to come party with us. There's nothing wrong with sharing stories from one generation to the other. Granted, we didn't do "house parties", we all had good times.

I’ve worked a ton of shitty construction jobs in my early twenties. It was the best whenever one of the older dudes would go out with us drinking Friday night.

We’d all sit around just listening to them tell us stories of crazy shit they did in the 80s. It was really cool to learn how the last generation got down and how much they loved skiing back in the day lol

And at work too, most of the people were older, and we included them in everything. It's nice to hang out with people who are laid-back and willing to participate without judging.

For us it would have been extremely weird.

Probably because y'all are extremely weird

We definitely are better at understanding weirdness I'd say.

Gotta show up and check the vibe, man. If he's cool he's cool.

Some of y’all don’t invited to holiday parties

I presume it's like at a friend's party or event and people of various ages are around.

I'm out here at 27 just starting life. How long do I have before it's weird? Edited : child at heart

You should probably call it when you get closer to 40, but it really depends where you are going

Well dude I just bought one of those bagsmart bags in my favorite color headed for my first trip today. I've got plenty of time then. Tokyo here I come!

Parting with 25 years old, only if I manage to successfully filter out all 16yo in the club/pub

I dunno, a few of my closest friends are 19/20 and I'm over 40. They don't drink or anything like that (so our early 20s are vastly different lol, they don't believe half my stories) but we go and actually do fun things (rock climbing, rollerskating, plays, etc) and then rot on the couch with shows/video games and good food and conversation. Honestly it's a refreshing change from my similarly-aged friends who are often tired and mostly rely on alcohol as the 'fun' part. Not saying one is better than the other but I like being able to connect on varying levels and tbh alcohol has felt more and more nauseating as I've gotten older so it's less fun for me. I do think my younger friends could loosen up a bit but I'm glad they are choosing their own paths re:drinking, I saw quite a few friends become alcoholics early on bc society just kind of expected you to drink a lot in order to be social.

  • It’s like hanging out with the PMRC, these younger brothers and etc of friends they act like pearl clutching old ladies, it looks so incredibly lame, like having fun is extremely bad form

  • No drinking? No smoking? Wtf they doing? Playing scrabble?

    Close: playing video games.

Mostly doom scrolling. My nieces ad nephews have asked me if those high school parties from the movies were real. Apparently all their gen does when they hang out is scroll tick tock and vape. They barely believe it when I tell them parties and kickbacks were common and a lot of fun. Its only been 10 years so it doesnt feel that long ago. Shits changed so much so quickly.

everyday after school in 1993 we would go to my friends house because his parents worked late and we would smoke weed and listen to Rage/Sublime and joke around for hours, like 4-5. just talking in my friends room like 3-4 people.

on the weekends we drove out to raves in the desert that were in under ground factories that were abandoned. just huge house music playing and every drug imaginable, all kinds of people, thumbing beat in your chest with a head full of some old school blueberry chronic and chatting a pretty girl from school that i knew would never go anywhere but still was nervous.. different time that could not exist in any other times as its way stricter now.

you can't compare apple to oranges, kids have it way rougher today, i know my sons 25.

Oof, some next generation surely will be wild as hell again, something's gotta give...

"Sex and drugs and rock-'n'-roll, sex and drugs and house!"

It's really weird how prude and conservative the youngins are.

Hey leave us alone. We dont want to fry our lungs and we dont want to drink hand sanitizer. Get it together.

Why cant you guys just do these degenerate things yourself?

Oh, don't worry, we still do :)

We just don't get why the kids no longer have fun like we did

Video games did get a lot better I suppose

  • Alcohol tastes like ass to me and a lot of my peers so we simply do not, and we also don't feel like crispy frying our lungs. The music can't be explained tho.

It tastes like ass because it's a literal poison and a toxin and something not meant to be consumed. Not only that, it's a group 1 carcinogen. Not drinking alcohol is an intelligent decision.

You've probably had some terrible bartenders. I used to make goofy ass drinks for a fantasy themed restaurant and we had a couple of one hit wonders . If you ever get a chance, or want to, make a "Groot Juice".
    Pint Glass with Ice
1.5oz of Midori or any Melon Liquer
1.5oz of Deep Eddy's Lime vodka
0.5-1.5oz of Passion Fruit Torani Syrup
    Top off with Club Soda

Everyone said it tasted like a jolly rancher

Then why not just eat a jolly rancher lmao. All the work to make your poison taste like something you could have for cheap any time

  • As if drinking and smoking are good things.

Right. I find it very disturbing when older generations have a problem with GenZ not being degenerate...thats needs some therapy honestly.

  • Good. I'm glad they're not smoking or drinking. Crap is nasty and polluting. They are probably vaping though which is is lame but I'd say better than nasty tobacco.

  • Alcohol, cigarettes and drugs just ain’t worth the time or money bro

  • Drinking makes me throw up and I’m not bringing my weed to a party to get swiped by someone else.

  • Back in my day, the music had actual instruments

    So, you're not really 12?!

  • Yeah… I’m 42 and I think the youngest person that’s been at a recent friend party is like 29. And none of us were drinking heavily. A few shared a joint. But everyone was in proper control

“Proper control”?  Go to back to England gubner

    Eeew.

Sometimes a joke lands, sometimes it doesn’t.

  • Sorry we care about our health now unlike previous generations lmao and the dig about the music is funny af cus I see plenty of elders rockin out to mainstream shit but ok lol.

I was in a train yesterday listening to a group of young lads talking about drinking as much as they could and where they could go after their mates house and what was open.

You don’t care about your health, it’s just too expensive for you 🤣

If you did, you wouldn’t be vaping at 15, and guzzling energy drinks like water.

I like how previous generations are awestruck at our attempts to be better than the previous generations by not being as reckless and more subdued.

Doesn’t help that we got dealt a bad hand and alcohol is a luxury to begin with.

Its going be really funny when you're 70 and dying of nothing.

  • Drinking is not something you should be proud of.

  • Try the clubs? I went to a gay club once and people were actually accepting of all ages.

But clubs may differ from each other.

The gay community seems to have a better understanding of "friends are cool to have at all ages" than online groups like this one.

With online communities in general, its a hit or miss. People usually act differently irl than online.

Masculine gay bros for instance kind of have a bitter attitude towards twinks, effeminate guys and Bi/gay crossdressers.

But yeah, broadly speaking, its quite accepting. I've been to pride marches and festivals and you'll not only find its 60% women, but people ranging from old to young.

  • The not drinking and not smoking is actually pretty lit. But the music do be shitty lol

  • What a weird thing to post? I'm 31 and no longer have any interest in drinking, and I'm glad this generation is avoiding it. Drinking is the equivalent to how people stopped smoking cigarettes

I'm 32 and I never even started drinking alcohol. I think it's rather common among young people. In fact, in my class in college the alcohol drinkers were in the minority. I don't even know anyone my age who smokes. It's a good thing!

Drinking culture is big here in Australia. "Going out" essentially means to go out and get piss drunk. Most of my 20s were a blur. Thankfully I managed to see through the veil and come out the other end, seeing how stupid it is. All it takes is being completely sober around drunk people to realise how belligerent, annoying, and sloppy people get. Down side is my friend circle is tiny now and even then most hangs involve them wanting to drink. I'm all for the new generation avoiding alcohol, even if weed edibles or something become more popular.

  • drunk with a few older people when I was young, as long as they didn't give a go neither did we

  • I owned an operated in music/art/photography/video studio for over 20 years. I rented multiple studios to just about every single original band in my area that was worth anything.

I had thrown events all the time, be it open air shows, or indoor art shows, or multi band, live entertainment nights,… And the crowd was always mixed. We had 22-year-olds up to 68-year-olds, and everyone hung out and everyone talked and everyone had a good time.

    There’s nothing weird about that.

  • I never thought we’d have a generation that trashes alcohol so hard yet this thread opened my eyes lol

Mustache guy in the 40s was against alcohol and now the Right is bringing his ideas back to the mainstream via social media.

  • Bro where are you I'm 24 and i can really handle my booze + spotify thinks I'm 38

  • No smoking, no drinking. Of course not... what are you suggesting?

  • Wait till the older generation finds out I would never drink, smoke or date. Oh the horror...

  • Most of us are VERY concerned with aging and trying to lock everything out that'd make it even worse.

  • The age old "today's music sucks" real music was the one from "my time" and the great ones that survived from older times. What? My parents said the same about our music? And their parents beforehand?

No matter how I get, I hope I never get that cognitive dissonance.

  • Being mad at young people is not a personality.

  • I'm 22 atm I would definitely not get drunk or high around strangers. Only at a party with close family or friends definitely not in public

  • You should party with people your own age?

Family celebrations, charity events, work parties, etc.

Thats fair. But then the meme is even weirder put in that context.

We're not the partying type. I fall asleep at 9pm fam.

  • The music is definitely some of the shittiest ever made.

  • whose the sad one. seems like the 45 year old to me. if u need vices to have fun, u are NOT fun!

  • Why are you hanging around college students at 45?

That is who is left filtering out all 16yo at pub

  • Bros mad he can’t hang out with drunk young people, totally not weird at all

  • Yeah don't do that

  • Well yeah.. alcohol tastes like crap, smoking isn’t healthy for you, and music has changed since Elvis..

  • It's a Christmas party Franklin, you weren't supposed to drink.

  • Stick your dick in it.

  • We're you picking up your daughter or what?

  • theyre doing molly and coke. step your game up

alcohol sucks ass and its really harmful and expensive

if you wanna feel drunk just do a line of ketamine 1) its cheaper 2) its a better NMDA antagonist so it feels "better" than drunk

if youre more on the "social" side of alcohol then you can just do a clonazepam and youre still better. it has much better GABA affinity

Coke is so fucking bad for you and only lasts for 10 minutes.

never tried. im too scared that it would be good. im pretty rich but i couldnt do like 1g a week that would drain me

Lol,.when I hear ketamine I think of people slumped over against a wall at a rave.

i alw do ketamine to watch dr house its pretty cool

    Settle down Hamilton Morris

Decent tier list till you got to the benzos. Those get fuckin out of hand so fast.

You wake up after drinking not remembering much and feeling like shit. Its a nice limiter. Ive seen many people lose like... 4 months instead of a day, on benzos. And yes, they bought 2 for a party, not a ton. But they sourced more in the same blackout period, not remembering that part at all.

And withdrawal can kill you, but thats the same as alcohol.

i would say im an addictive personality but i could manage benzos fairly well

the things i had trouble putting down are PCP , MDMA , Vyvanse , Ritalin

You just have more of an affinity for uppers, some people are inverse.

alcohol is bad for you, do ketamine instead is a wild fucking take

  • 45 year old man partying with 20 year old kids. And partying already is the most NPC activity you could possibly do. You disgust me OP

  • The music is what would get to me. It's loud talking to bad music.

I don't think any generation can ever beat our music of the 70s and 80s. (Except country music, OMG, that stuff was just awful!) Our music ruined my generation for future generations' music, nothing beats it. Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, so many fantastic artists. Now, it's all computer-generated, and the artists are poor and working door dash. (Something I didn't know until recently.) How can your heart and soul be into something when the computers are doing most of your work, and you have to leave the studio to go deliver door dash?

Things have changed in all the wrong ways.

Hey, I’m old and you’re just not looking in the right places.

im young and i say the same
