I typically see simpler systems, the wheels of the shopping card are thin enough to fit in the groves, and there is a rubber pad to the side of the wheels that will contact the surface of the escalator once the wheel falls in the grove
They are, but they won't engage when they're moved by a bunch of carts behind and not held by anything.
If you smoothly step on the travelator with a single cart, holding it securely with both hands, then yes, the rubber "brakes" will get stuck on the grooves. Apparently if you connect even two carts (as the dude is holding after losing most of them), neither fits because they're not aligned
The Sainsburys supermarket that I used to work at as a teen had those but the magnets were nowhere near strong enough, so maybe that's a common problem 🤷
It's a mechanical brake. The inner portion of the wheel gets pushed upwards againdt the "wheel hub" by the ridges and thus breaks it by friction (and grooves?)
Normally when this is done the front cart is strapped through all the carts to the rear cart to stop them separating. Also carts can go on escalators if they have the lock in type of wheel. As you wheel the cart on to the escalator the wheels lock into the groove in the escalator. When you get to the end a metal part on the floor separates the cart from the escalator.
I saw guys working at the supermarket store push like 3 times as much carts as that dude was pushing onto an escalator and none of them moved, they all seemed to be completely locked
I used to work for grocery stores repairing the wheels, and stores that had those kind of escalators were required to have the locking wheels.
It could be possible the carts were from a different store, or the guys doing what you mentioned were careful to push the carts on the movator so the grooves lined up.
“the cart then moves upwards... where it waits 1.6 seconds, presumably in midair, where it turns right, then left, right, then left and continues through the shopper’s body...
Soriana in Puerto Vallarta has one of these and every time I use it, this is my worst nightmare. They have mag-locks on the wheels. But still, I never take my cart onto the down ramp with someone in front of me, let alone several carts.
A million years ago when I was a teen I worked at Wal Mart, and I was one of the ones who participated happily in stupid human tricks while retrieving the carts from the parking lot. Never had this specific oh shit, but I we had a few. haha
How did she get hit this hard? Like imagine those things rolling downhill. It doesn't feel possible to accelerate that much in the time on the escalator.
If it was in US/Europe - definitely. But this is probably in russia, so I doubt it. You can see text above door, it says "Желаем доброго пути", what stand in russian for "Wish yousafe journey".
Aren't the wheels of carts supposed to be blocked in the escalators floor?
That must be special ones with grooves. Then they get blocked due to wedge effect in the escalators step
I typically see simpler systems, the wheels of the shopping card are thin enough to fit in the groves, and there is a rubber pad to the side of the wheels that will contact the surface of the escalator once the wheel falls in the grove
I thought they just went round and round.
The supermarket trolley goes crash crash crash
Sue sue sue,
whip lash, whip lash
These are the assassins carts

I am guessing they used wrong kind of carts with flat wheels. How they ended up in this building I don't know

Million dollar wound
That you Gump?
You know, they say stupidity should hurt?
I was just thinking it would be the person doing the stupid thing.
Very rarely does stupidity hurt the originator.
That escalated quickly
More like de-escalated, amirite? 😬
You are rite
Things went downhill fast for sure
Brick killed a guy.
The wheels are meant to lock automatically on those escalators.
I think when you have several shopping carts locked together in a chain like that, the grooves might not align properly.
Just a theory
I saw guys working at the supermarket store push like 3 times as much carts as that dude was pushing onto an escalator and none of them moved, they all seemed to be completely locked
I don't doubt that at all.
I used to work for grocery stores repairing the wheels, and stores that had those kind of escalators were required to have the locking wheels.

Not a game theory
that wasn't smart
That woman being flung to the left is sending me… 😭
Is it sending you to the left?
Back and to the left
“the cart then moves upwards... where it waits 1.6 seconds, presumably in midair, where it turns right, then left, right, then left and continues through the shopper’s body...
Baaaaack to the right🎶
r/whatcouldgowrong could use this.
Guy at the bottom of the escalators:
Why do I hear the runaway theme from Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends?
Troublesome Shopping Carts:
On, On On! Faster, Faster! Bump him outta the way!
Dumb dude is more worried about his carts than the girl he had just nearly killed
Should have worked S-Mart
Physics, their mortal enemy.
It's an ok plan, but you need 2 guys. to make it work right.
- Get job at grocery store with escalator like this
- have friend get hurt doing this
- Get fired, friend sues company, gets money and splits it
About to be fired in 23 different languages
Cool the back wheels on the cart are also a casters. Strafing with a shopping cart sounds wonderful.
Dude when you encounter these carts in the wild they're a blast. You can just spin them 360° in place, or even while they're moving forward!
It's not actually better or safer, necessarily, but it IS way more fun.
...at least, until a wholly avoidable disaster strikes.
Hey Beavis .....watch this dude heh huhh huhh huhhh.

I don't think it's magnets, usually it's just grooves on wheels plus rubber feet. Wheel sinks a bit into the step, and the foot is held by friction.

Hear me out… r/tiresaretheenemy but for shopping carts
The guy later taking to manager..” some lady damaged the carts and pushed them into the window…”. What do you mean a camera?
Is this a wall-e outtake!?
Ya know if I was that lady it would be over for that dude
Video game physics

I hope she is fine
Bro wtf how dumb can one be he injured her badly she flew I hope she is okay
When you don't know physics, but physics knows you
Could have worked if he had turned them around, but i guess that was to hard.
In the States that woman would be a multi-millionaire after this.
That was not smart. First day?
Perfect crash test makes shopping carts.
Carts are supposed to lock in the grooves so this is one tricky pickle to pursue
😂
Haha daumn
Ha Sheer stupidity
This is Russia.
The magnets on the moving walkway failed.
She dead . She died.
How did she get hit this hard? Like imagine those things rolling downhill. It doesn't feel possible to accelerate that much in the time on the escalator.
Are these people normal? Surely they're missing some crucial human components such as any sense at all.
Aren't carts and people NOT supposed to share the same escalator?
Attack on Carts
That's scary, I'm always scared when someone leaves carts near roads.
Classic case of "why take the stairs when you can walk the escalator?" 😂
Oh, walk it off lady...
Proceed to court. Collect money.
The manager who fired the trolley boy for a power trip and KPIs last week, on his way to get the job done quicker and more efficiently:
That's gotta be worth a few thousand dollars in a law suite.
If it was in US/Europe - definitely. But this is probably in russia, so I doubt it. You can see text above door, it says "Желаем доброго пути", what stand in russian for "Wish yousafe journey".
All of my body hurts your honor, this has caused tremendous stress to me and all of my love one imma need 250000 for all of my distress.🤑🤑🤑
Ai generated. You can’t get launched like that by getting hit by a cart.
Why dont you Try it yourself and share the results if you make it to the hospital
