Is 1337 ok?
  • 132 points baboon101

No. That third counting thing, with such utilization, is simply a shroud for a fifthglyph.

    Shroud is a fantastic word

    Caul is too.

Right, it’s lazy. Actually try and think of ways to say what you want to say sans fifthglyph, as this sub truly is worthy of your additional labor.

    I’m loving “shroud” too.

    parent root
    3 points everythingisunknown

I’m also put off by looking at words in which authors simply omit a fifthglypth such as “im fd up”

    parent root
    2 points Water-is-h2o

Not only that, but if you look at what rulings our mods did, this would go against 2. You can’t cut out a fifth glyph and put a similar looking symbol in its spot in a word

    parent root
    1 points tfhaenodreirst

    But…counts don’t count!

    parent root
    2 points anderssi

But thats only pronounciation. You still dot down 1337 without fifth glyphs. Not dissimilar to digit 1 vs its 3 glyph form.

    parent root
    1 points tornait-hashu

it has two fithglyphs in it anyways.

    parent root
  • 33 points Local-Pet-FoxGirl

Without a doubt, it is not okay. It contains that sigil still, though its mask is obvious, so is that glyph within said mask. So no, no it is not.

    parent
  • 27 points awkwardsexpun

Fuck no, that shit gotta go

    parent
  • 11 points illegal_tacos

Without a doubt, no it is not. What you put forward has no right to substitution of that stain upon our words.

1337 is a way of writing from 1980-2000s that will put 1,2,3, and so on in locations of glyphs

    1=L

    7=t

using counting symbols as a substitution simply masks a fifthglyph. our goal is to avoid using fifthglyphs, without simply dropping it from a word, or substituting it for additional symbols and glyphs

I fully do not think that our sub should ban 1, 3, 7, and 9. Symbols not Anglo-Saxon in origin, our Anglo-Saxon lingo should not disbar symbols that subsist apart from our lingo. Glyphs with connotations distant from our own.

    parent
  • 1 points Kerdubs

Buddy I wish I could say it was, but that’s just not how this gang works. Hiding a fifthglyph can’t mask it into woodwork I’m afraid.

    parent
  • 1 points WackyPaxDei

This sub's point is to work a bit at communicating with a significant constraint, thus improving your writing skills. It should not occur so simply; you must think.

    parent
  • 1 points uvero

No, just start utilizing your synonym book if you lack words without filthglyphs.

You now follow what it is that our community has built. You must find a way to craft your words without using fifthglyph. Subtracting fifthglyph from words that contain fifthglyph is a lazy solution. You can do it I contain faith for you.

    parent root
    10 points aayushisushi

Thank you, my amigo. And to you, in addition. I hold many thanks to you. I was lacking in vocabulary and thought until I saw your words.

Kind human, would it go against this sub’s standards for you to gift a human such as I with knowing what 1337 might possibly stand for ?

    parent root
    3 points nullbyte420

Oh it's an old hacking in-group word. You might say "I am a 1337 h4xx0r": I am an aristocratic hacking man. As in, I am so good at controlling my data calculator. You know, that automaton you sit in front of right now too. An old stationary laptop.

Computing was a skill, nowadays it's almost as if you can do it with no smarts at all.

That hacking thing is old school, and I'm old now too 👴🏻 in 20 solar rotations, you'll post this kind of thing about what robux and skibidi was, and why trans rights was so important, and how it had a flag that was symbolically part of a rainbow.

You should add “a”’s in your post. Saying “subtracting fifthglyph” sounds odd. “Subtracting a fifthglyph” is right.

    parent root
    1 points anex12

I am using "fifthglyph" as a tag to point to what fifthglyph is. Such as calling a pal, "Boss" as opposition to a boss or your boss. This is how I am vocalizing fifthglyph. Not as a noun, but a tag.
