Some layering effects, dry brushing and marring up the surface could do wonders to sell it is piping. That said it all feels very overkill to just hang the tv by a couple chains and not even run the wires through.
I'd be arguing it's worse execution than it is taste. The fact nothing lines up kills me. The tv isn't centered on the horizontal, not are the pipes aligning with the windows. Then the cables aren't concealed. Then painted PVC pipe. The pressure guage doesn't match steampunk and isn't fitted correctly.
They dropped the ball on the execution. The way they mounted the tv and the frame looks weird. They also had an absolute layup for cable management by hiding them in additional pipes.
It doesnt make sense, why is an electric tv dangling off a “steam” tube, why not make it look like the tv is powered by steam? There is nothing steam punk about this.
It’s close to being good. It’s needs some more steam and lots more punk. Make that copper look distressed and add some more valves with lots of gears for no reason. The border on the tv is too much, make it leather and add some faux buttons and gears. Install an outlet behind the tv to hide the wires.
I think it could be cool in the right setting, lile with brickwork or something. And if they hid the wires properly X3 like, it is a pipe, figure a way to run cable up through it?
They could have run the wires behind those pipes at least
Through
But if they put the wires in the pipe, where will they puts the steams and the punks
I don't think you should run unshielded cables through steam pipes
Pssssshhhhh. Sure you can.
Seriously, if you're going to that much trouble... I hope they eventually did this lmao
Hell, they could have move the outlet up to be behind the TV. “Plumbers” aren’t great electricians
When I get to build a house I will never be able to move stuff cause outlets will be planed in weird spots 😅
Or put some other wall finishing on to cover them
All that, and we are still looking at danglecord.
Mfer needs Jesus.
It's a bit too much, and not in the right space. I could see something like that working in a mill loft.
this is good idea, poor execution. Spray-painted PVC fools nobody.
Some layering effects, dry brushing and marring up the surface could do wonders to sell it is piping. That said it all feels very overkill to just hang the tv by a couple chains and not even run the wires through.
Yes! Steampunk is dirty, sooty, with shine coming through. Some weathering, patina, and verdegris would go a long way on this project.
This guy knows how to do it right

I want that gauge to be an ammeter to tell you how much power is being used...
Or an SPL meter, or an analog progress indicator for the movie being played.
They need to do the rest of the room, c'mon now
Go big or go home!
Again, not awful. That’s pretty awesome.
I like it a lot actually, but I have some notes
Terrible. All that effort for terrible.
Would have looked way better with black pipe instead of this 4" PVC or whatever. The pipe is too chunky.
It screams toilet stack ... maybe they are making an artsy statement here?
r/TVTooHigh
It’s not really though
It’s hard to tell but it sure seems like the center of the tv is higher than one’s eyeline if seated on a couch
Wait until you see the steampunk couch that’s 5’ high…
It's not if you go to the cinema and always sit in that enviable first row
I'd be arguing it's worse execution than it is taste. The fact nothing lines up kills me. The tv isn't centered on the horizontal, not are the pipes aligning with the windows. Awful taste and execution
Dafuq
For some reason I thought this was a Sims screenshot at first
They dropped the ball on the execution. The way they mounted the tv and the frame looks weird. They also had an absolute layup for cable management by hiding them in additional pipes.
I think you meant to post this in r/ATAAE
I deem it r/GTBAE
I would paint it green and play Mario on it.
Yeah just hang it on the wall with a shitty mount from Walmart like the rest of us!
That’s a lot of hardware for that tv. Should have used smaller pipes or got a way bigger tv.
I don’t hate the concept, but, as the name of the sub implies, I don’t love the execution.
It looks too new. It needs some weathering
Not awful taste, IMHO, but not great execution either. This is interesting taste and mediocre execution.
Seems like the opposite. Not my taste, but could be cool. The execution is terrible
Is there a great taste but mid execution subreddit? Because this would be perfect for it
That's more r/GTBAE
This would’ve worked if:
A. The space fit the vibe, it’s the most plain Jane looking living room with this in the middle.
B. The right materials were used. Copper and old iron pipes are not ridiculously expensive and could have made a world of difference.
Also most steampunk items have moving parts some fake steam valves or a fake rotating gear set could make a world of difference!

I love the pipe structure. For some reason I don't care for the bright copper looking border around the TV.
Thanks, I hate it.
this seems like a rather permanent installment for tech that was outdated a long time ago
That is ugly beyond reason. Wtf
My first thought was that they were soil pipes
Cool idea, but I would have used much thinner pipes. And yes - it annoys me that he couldn't hide the power cable somewhere in the oversized things.
guessing that's painted pvc for the "pipe" curious about the couplings..
I love watching my shows in the boiler room of a municipal building!
This would be fantastic in a bar/pub with the right aesthetic (and if you bothered to hide the cables), but it honestly just looks bad here.
ok this could work if the whole space is steampunk and idk u actually make it look good by covering wires and adding patina
Just awful
So the needle will show if its No.1 or No.2?
I'm getting less steam punk and more Mario World...
Money can't buy taste
this looks like a Mario Bros bedroom repainted for a teenager that outgrew it.
I mean cool idea but it doesn't go with the current home theme/decor

I've made things just like this in Planet Coaster
