Zu enjoys trying out the RG477M, uses Black Frame insertion and the CRT Beam shader, and relays his thoughts about the latest "premium" style android handheld from Anbernic (with a price to match).
Make a P(lastic) version please... Same form, don't give it ergo grips, keep it slim. Like, does anyone but me care about weight? Or is a metal shell really worth the tradeoff at this size? It makes sense for a GKD Pixel or RG Nano, but the larger the device, the larger the difference is in weight with a metal casing.
I feel like Obi-Wan screaming "you were the chosen one!" in despair.
For me at least, weight only matters at all if I'm actually planning on putting it in a pocket. Everything else is being carried in a bag/car/whatever or just at home so I don't care. The 353m that he compares sizes with at 6:10 in the video is the same size as the 35xxh which is basically the biggest thing I really like walking around with. And that's the only reason why I got a 35xxh over the 353m - it's lighter. Even the miyoo mini + feels kinda too bulky to me in a pocket. I could see the argument for things a bit bigger than the 353m but is anyone really putting the 477 in their pocket?
for the metal RP2S, the metal shell passively cooled it along with the added cooling pads that contact the back shell. not sure if anbernic would do the same.
I agree, I'm already hoping that we see a new leak soon, and I'm hoping it's this screen and chip again but in a plastic shell. The only change I'd like to see is if they could bring the sticks inwards slightly, so they're not directly under the dpad and buttons.
Well actually, I take that back, I'd also like to see the price change (drop) at least a little for the P lol.
The Vita 1000 is my go to pocket SNES and Genesis. Do you have one you can compare to see if this looks better for those? The 477m has higher resolution, but it's not OLED, so I wonder.
RP5 will get the job done for cheaper. Snapdragon CPU, better drivers and a gorgeous OLED display. This being said, if you are into metal shells, this is beautiful device that will make you smile for a while. It's heavier and expensive, but in my opinion this is a fair trade for the premium feel that comes with it. I personally own a 353M and I still cosider it a very special handheld. The 477M will definitely end up in my collection.
RP5 is the better universal handheld. If you want one handheld to do the most, the RP5 will be better. It has a 16:9 OLEF screen and has a better supported chip. You will also have the option to have it work well with the dual screen attachment if you choose that too.
The RG477M looks premium and looks like an ideal 4:3 handheld for most. So I would say a lot of people will love it as their primary “retro” handheld. But it it wont be ideal for 16:9 content.
Almost nothing is 16:9 for retro, the only thing 16:9 is good for as far as emulators is PSP or Switch. So with widescreen handhelds you get a smaller image with bars or stretched graphics, and non integer scaling. If you are going to emulate mostly up to PS2 then this screen aspect and integer resolution is best. So it depends on primary use.
K…That’s why I said the RG477M will be ideal as a primary retro handheld, and the RP5 is the better universal if you factor in 16:9 since some people like to use widescreen hacks on GC and PS2 for the non-widescreen games, and some people like to use these handhelds for streaming, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a plastic shell replacement for this...
If it's an easy swap of course

weight matters to me every time I'm holding a device and playing for a while. it's not just pockets.

My main handheld I use a legion go .so I am not worried about weight
Mine is too, but I'm not trying to carry the LeGo in my pocket 😅

How's the tv out?
Works well and by default mirrors the device resolution and ratio.
Your TV streaming worked out fine ? No issues at all ? I'm having a hard time with it
But did you manage to change the tv out ratio? I was thinking it would be nice to play wide screen games on the tv with it.
Doesn't connects and no image is shown
I'm really thinking if I should get this or just a high end tablet.
Ayn Thor it is. Literally the same price.
I got both ;) at least preordered the thor I m hoping its my end game device
This or RP5?

where to get the DPAD test application?
Ah it came loaded on by default, helpful!
Price hike for this was enormous! I wonder if this is still selling, giving the other options.
This chipset would be cool on a vertical.😉
is it possible to run hell divers 2 on the rg477m? if so I'll probably buy one
Looks garbo
