  • I met my wife in middle school too. We met the first day of 7th grade when we were both 12, I was attracted to her from the start and since we both liked to do all the same things we soon became friends. Whenwe were in high school (15-16) our relationship changed and became much more. we got married as soon as we graduated at 18 and put each other through college.

We've been married now for over 45 years and all our kids are now in their 40s. I know conventional wisdom says teenage marriages never work but in our case it did. I can't imagine a different life and wouldn't want one without her in it even if I could start all over again.

Doooood ..... yes ! You get it ! It's wild how unique we are, and it's something that most people will never experience or fully understand. I joke that if something were to happen to her and I became single I'd just never even try to date cuz I have absolutely NO IDEA how to date properly lol. It such a foreign concept to me.

     put each other through college.

You mean the parents didn’t help?

I’m impressed because in college there’s so much temptation. Lol

No, neither of our parents ever helped us out in any way, shape, or form, her parents hated me, and my parents hated her, and all of them did their best to get us to divorce.

Temptation is only there if you choose to look at it and think of the possibilities. I chose not to even look. Why consider something else when I already had the love of my life?

They hated you guys because they thought you ruined each other’s life? When did the hate stop? How did you survive college on your own?

The hate didn't stop until her parents and my mom died. They knew that we made each other happy, and that simply couldn't be tolerated. I've been no contact with my dad for decades, but he never wanted me to marry her either.

We survived college by me working full time and her part time until she graduated; then she worked full time and I worked part time until I graduated.

It took a very long time to achieve, and it was really hard, but we took classes when we could afford them, and we didn't carry any student debt. To keep costs down, we were each able to CLEP numerous classes; we only took the classes we had to have for our degrees, and we bought used books whenever possible, which we also sold back at the end of the term.

It also helped that this was during the 80s & 90s, before the cost of college became utterly ridiculous. It was expensive then, but I don't see how it's possible for people to afford college now.

This was also 45 years ago when one could put themselves through college with a summer job!

Not quite, but college was a lot more affordable then than it is now.

  • What’s your first memory of your wife? What’s your best memory with her? What has changed about her, and what has stayed the same?

I can honestly remember the exact moment I met her: It was outside a classroom near the courtyard as school, and my friend sneakily unzipped her backpack and her books fell out. She turned around and gave us both this annoyed look. I helped her with her books. We kind of just ran in the same social circles after that.

Best memory. Prob getting to homebase for the first time lol. FR tho, prob the moment we kissed at our wedding - it was the culmination of a life lived together and to be together for life.

So much has changed, were both 42 now, but we basically live most of our lives together so were both so intertwined. I've literally seen her grow up from a 12 year old to the astonishingly beautiful woman she is today. Hard to say whats stayed the same, but mostly just our dedication to each other and the idea that whatever life throws at us we've got it and were in it together 100.

What was the hardest period? Was there doubt then?

Good question. I think the hardest period was prob college where there was this temptation and curiosity of dating others. We gave it a shot, but ultimately came back to each other cuz we were just looking for the same thing as what we already had but in other people …. So what was the point, right. It was kind of a trial and it just furthered our relationship afterward.

how long were you broken up for / dating other people before you came back together and did you ask to reconcile first or she did?

  • That’s so sweet! What’s your favorite thing about her, your relationship, and yalls lives?

Hard to have 1 fav. But I think one of top things is just the utter loyalty and connectiveness we have with each other. We literally grew up together and have so much co-life experiences that we're weirdly both one and the same, but also vastly diff in some ways. We just get each other and have each other's back always. It's kinda like having another version of ourselves to go through life with. Were both still madly in love with each other.

  • Did she give it up in 8th grade or was it hand jobs until senior prom?

lol. I touched her boobs in 8th grade. did some hand stuff in HS. Lost virginity to each other on Xmas day when we were both 16.

Yall have the life that every high-school couple thinks they're gonna have. They should be checking ID on this thread. You're gonna get these kids hopes up.

Happy for you though. Most of us are not fortunate enough to get so much time with their person.

    That’s the real question

  • When did you know she was the one

Prob in college. At one point we both decided to break up for awhile to try out new people, but then we both realized we were just trying to find the same person as each other and that we already had. So it was prob around that time when I knew this was it for me. Funny thing is is that I had to lie for a year after I had proposal plans in order to wait for the right time to propose. Lots of arguments about "where is this going?" . All in good fun now lol.

Ohh I see well I’m not lucky in love as you my friend so your story does bring a smile to my face

Thanks for those kind words. Our sich is so unique, most people's lives don't have this storyline. I"m sure there's someone out there that will make you happy in that way :)

Haha highly doubt it but thank you for the kind words I wish the best for you and your family

    That would be post-hand job(s).

    Haha of course lol

  • I was 12 and he was 15 I chased him. Been together ever since no breaks. Married 43 years and I got so lucky because he’s a wonderful man, father and grandfather.

  • So were they the student and you the teacher?/s

We were both students in the same grade when we met

  • Is there anything you don’t know about or that would surprise you to find out about your wife? Is there anything that she doesn’t know about you or you think you could surprise your wife with?

  • Why do you think most people don’t stay with their First Loves?

  • Do you/your wife believe in soul mates?
