I collect all kinds of taxidermy specimens! Wet, dry, bones, mummies. My favorite is kitten fetuses, I have several of those. I like to go to taxidermy conventions too! Also sometimes collect butterflies
This is so cool, I don't think I even have a question, I just love this stuff a lot. I guess I could start with, how did you get into this? Origins are always interesting!
Instagram! I saw someone who had made a taxidermy rat wearing a dress and I bought it bc I thought it looked pretty and then I kept getting more insta accounts referred to me about different kinds of taxidermy, then I joined a few Facebook groups for buying stuff
That's so fun, finally an example of the algorithm working haha. Your collection sounds awesome btw, I didn't realize this included stuff like rats wearing dresses and now I'm even happier! If you ever feel like sharing your collection I'm sure the fine people in r/Taxidermy would get a kick out of it!
(Sorry for the late reply btw, I was under the impression I'd be chilling for Xmas Eve but you know how the holidays can be unpredictable! Happy holidays btw! I hope you're having a fine evening with your specimens and anyone else important to you!)
My rabbit is going to die soon. I’m considering taxidermy. Any tips to keep her preserved until I can find someone who will prepare her body for me? For a 10lbs animal in a resting position what would be the ballpark cost? Under $1000CAD?
I’m not Canadian and I’ve never done pet taxidermy so I can’t help on the money front, but put her in a large ziplock bag in the freezer as soon as possible to preserve her. I hope you get many more happy memories with her before she passes 💜
I've seen some really bad taxidermy around. Is the general standard of professionals quite good? Are there just a lot of amateurs around who don't know what they're doing?
I was just being honest.
I guess I don't mind it as long as no living being gets killed for it...
If it's just preserving things that die from natural causes then I don't have a problem with it.
You don't go and kill things for the sake of taxidermifying them do you?
Ok I don't have an inherent issue with that then but honestly I find nature and animals that are alive to be much more beautiful and appealing personally...
And I think once things die it's better to let them decay and go back into nature naturally...
Anything can be beautiful since beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Personally I just prefer to just let things go back into nature instead of trying to preserve them forever...
It doesn't feel natural to me.

Are wet specimens difficult to take care of? Also, what is the most interesting wet specimen you have collected?
Nope not at all, they just sit in a jar of alcohol!
I think I’d have to say my opossum Joey. He’s very cute and tiny!
Whoa I would love to see that

I’m sure there’s a lot of both
I found out a few years ago that taxidermy was just stuffed past tense animals. Whats the difference between a good taxidermy and a bad one?
Good taxidermy is done in the correct form, bad is not. Idk lol
How big is your collection? What was the hardest to acquire?
Hmm I have 2 shelves on my bookshelf for my collection. My full body kitten was hardest/most expensive but she’s beautiful
Taxidermy gives me the creeps... In the same way that something like necrophilia would...
That’s.. a you problem

No I don’t. I collect taxidermy that was already dead, like roadkill

How many pushups can you do in a row with good form
Approximately 0
That’s a first
do you keep finding dead butterflies?
No I buy them
