Started losing my hair at 15 and by 16 I was fully bald no hair, no facial hair, no body hair. I am now 19 and my hair has never grown back. According to a few studies about 0.04% of people with alopecia develop universalis

  • Is alopecia super life altering or is just hair loss and that’s really all of it? I’ve only met one dude in bootcamp with it and he was the smartest dude I knew in the entire platoon but he seemed completely fine though.

No nostril hair means no filtering of particles in the air, so sinus infections and other issues can be more frequent

Also, keep in mind that it is technically an auto-immune disease, so there could be other things going on beneath the surface, but very few studies have ever been done, so doctors know basically nothing about it and long term effects. We just have anecdotal data.

I haven’t had many issues with my sinuses beyond just regular allergies, and I was gonna do a clinical study but the clinic sketched me out so I opted out.

I was speaking for myself. You’re not the only Alpaca 😉

It is purely cosmetic, there is no negative health effects that comes with it. That being said not having eyelashes to prevent dirt from getting in my eyes sucks.

Gotcha. Do you wear a hat a lot?

When I’m hiking or gonna be in the sun yeah besides those times I rarely do.

  • Do you wear fake eyelashes? And have you tried many wigs?

I have not, I decided it’d be cheaper and more convenient to build up confidence with it since there is no cure and no good treatment. So instead of spending a bunch on wigs to look different I decided to embrace it.

  • Do you use any special skin products? I can imagine the loss of hair can be irritating?

I don’t use anything special, just instead of shampoo I use face wash. That being said when my hair was still growing back (it’d come back a few centimeters in some areas on my head) it was irritating to lay my head on a pillow as it’d catch and pull the little hairs.

Did you shave it off again?

Yeah at that point there were massive spots which were completely bald meanwhile other spots on my head were steadily growing back so it’d look strange if it grew back more. So I just routinely shaved for about 2 weeks or so then my hair just stopped growing all together and has not grown for about 2-3 years now

  • I have alopecia. It went from completely bald no hair anywhere. To some scalp hair and body hair. No brows or lashes. I'm very insecure about it. My self esteem is lowered and I get dust in my eyes often. I hate it

It was hard for me too at first, I changed schools due to being insecure but that being said why stress over something that won’t change. That’s how I learned to love myself again I just embraced the new unique look and ignored or shutdown people who made jokes. Bullies are looking for a reaction so if you refuse to give them one they get bored. How old are you?

I'm a 38 year old black lesbian butch. As a teen, I wore wigs to conceal my baldness. Being a young black woman back in the early 2000s was brutal. The girlies used to be dressed to impress. I was poor and couldn't afford the fancy weaves and wigs, so I learned how to make my own wigs/quick weaves. In my 20s, I started getting a random patch of hair growth that grew back 65 percent of my hair. I looked like the light skinned guy from kid and play with the hightop fade. Google him. I had basically no edges, just had hair on the center of my head. I cut it and wore a bald fade with waves. Currently I'm rocking my natural hair plaited, but it fully grew back. I never show my head in public. I'm very embarrassed about it.

I understand that our situations are very different, you just gotta embrace your natural beauty regardless of what others think. Own your look it’s one of the only things no one can take from you.

  • If there was a pill/treatment that could cure it… would you ?

Eh I dig the bald look lmao also it’s a lot less maintenance now. That being said if I could get my eyebrows and eyelashes back I would.

I have it too and feel exactly the same, wish I had eyebrows and eyelashs too. I was lucky not to get til late 30s. My dad got it around 15. Anyone else in your family have it?

No one else in my family has it, that being said every single one of my grandparents have autoimmune diseases.

  • Are you cold all the time because of not having body hair?

Surprisingly no, I’ve always gotten overheated super easy even after losing my hair.
