Marty Supreme is going to be a big film! There have been a lot of preview screenings and that’s likely going to increase as we approach the release. I know a lot of people want to discuss this film, but we want to be mindful of spoilers at least until this has come out.

Feel free to use this thread to talk about the film with spoilers.

  • Saw it last night. Amazing movie. If you thought Sandler played a piece of shit you ain’t seen nothing yet

Oh ya Timmy went full goblin haha loved it

  • I was looking forward to the showimg last night but had no real expectations. This movie blew me away! It was phenomenal and honestly might be my favorite of the year. My favorite types of stories are the ones following a charismatic character that can talk their way in or out of anything getting into deeper and deeper trouble. In my opinion Chalamet gave his best performance yet. This was an Uncut Gems anxiety attack mixed with a sports biopic mixed with a globetrotting period piece. It looks great, the pacing had me on edge from start to finish, and the 80s soundtrack totally worked for me.

There's a special kind of high you get every once in a while when you see a movie that really worms its way into your head, and I'm still riding that high today. Can't wait to watch it again at Christmas.

  • It pretty thoroughly rocks. Kinda amazed at how specifically they’re marketing it - they really want people to think it’s a sports biopic.

The trailer actually made me less interested. I was less likely to watch it with the trailer than I was before.
I got a screening though and am glad I gave it a shot!

yeah, i think the trailers have been pretty rough, i get that they're trying to hide what the movie is/present much of it out of context but it does leave them looking pretty bland

It doesn't look interesting to me at all, not a fan of more than one person in the cast as well (let's not give Kevin O'Leary an Oscar campaign, please), but I'm still going to see it based on what I've heard about it, and because of the director.

I feel like they are doing a terrible job marketing it. For example, I don’t want to see a sports bio pic about ping pong

meh, i think the viral marketing has been pretty great. the trailers are pretty purposefully not telling the whole story but i agree they aren't the most inspiring.

I like the trailer with Forever Young and all the globe-trotting.  Has a warm epic tone, both cool and family friendly.  Kinda misleading for the movie though, but thats fine to get audiences in their seats.  The casting makes it seem a lot more auteurish than the usual sports biopic.

  • Okay can someone explain what this movie is really about then? i’m reading its marketed as a sports biopic yet isn’t, so tell me what it is bruh 😭😭😭 stop with that vague shit, someone hammer this film home for me

It’s basically Marty needs to get to Japan for the world championships to prove he’s the best ping pong player. The unfortunate thing is he needs to get the money in any way possible. Marty is very charismatic and does a bunch of ethically questionable things to get the money.

Since this is a spoiler thread it’s very Uncut gems anxiety, closely following Marty with some ping pong in a period piece. It’s not at all a sports biopic like the trailer shows

It's basically Timmy is a Catch Me if You Can-like hustler

Thank you. Now this sells it for me.

  • Best movie of the year. Didn't think anything could top One Battle or Sinners but this movie did.

It's too good. Josh came back with a vengeance

  • I feel like this movie is going to be like Challengers.

That would be nice. I had to convince so many people to watch Challengers, but no one was interested in a 'tennis movie'. I'm not interested in sports either, but it's not just a 'tennis' movie, and the tennis scenes we do get are so exciting and well-shot, playing more like extended foreplay between the characters. It utilizes the tennis in a spectacular way.

However, I now understand how my friends felt because I have no desire to watch Marty Supreme, but I'm sure I'll like it anyway.

  • Can someone who has seen it explain why it's going to be a big film? Obviously mileage may vary, and not every movie has to be made for me, but this movie exudes negative appeal for me. From trailers, to cast, to premise, none of it has been able to sell itself to me. Yet it's getting a lot of hype online, while in my day to day life I've heard zero people mention it. Anecdotal, sure, but I've legit heard more people talk about Predator Badlands and Running Man than Marty Supreme.

It’s all over tiktok rn definitely seems to be more hype based on the marketing than some more recent a24 releases for sure

Did you like Good Time or Uncut Gems? Safdie films are pretty polarizing in my experience.  I don’t think Marty Supreme is any different.  People will like Chalamet’s performance and the other supporting actors, but the verve and anxiety and amorality of this movie will probably be a turn-off for people.

It is extremely entertaining and accessible, the word of mouth will be outstanding

I just think it's a movie that's going to have extremely wide appeal - much like one battle after another. It's a very entertaining movie led by a very charismatic performance from Timothee that's also filled with interesting ideas to grip to when you leave it.

Like I think the biggest strength will be word of mouth, the movie is just a very good time.

  • can someone who's seen it pls tell me how explicit it is? spoilers are fine. my dad is a big ping pong fan and wanted to see it with me but idk how awkward it'd be lmao.

There’s 3 or 4 sex scenes in it. There’s no nudity whatsoever and they’re mostly shot in close ups from the shoulders up. There’s one scene where someone is about to be eaten out but it’s interrupted before it can get too serious. They’re all maybe a minute long at max. Depending on your relationship with your dad I think you should be fine, maybe mildly uncomfortable for 30 seconds but overall ok.

Gotta maintain eye contact in scenes like that to assert dominance.

The opening credits are of Timmy's sperm flying around

    How long does that last😥

I really don’t understand people who can’t watch more grown up content with fellow grown ups, even if it’s their family.

My mom is the biggest prude and I saw wolf of Wall Street with her, my dad and my boyfriend (now husband). Everyone had a blast.

I think it’s a very American thing to be embarrassed to watch sex scenes with your parents, and it never goes away lmao

It is and I think is bizarre.

That people don’t wanna watch sex scenes with their parents? I mean, I get it. Lol

It’s very immature in my opinion. It seems to be just an American thing too

I would say it's explicit but not like a super uncomfortable movie? I plan to watch it again with my dad when I visit him this holidays.

There's a couple of sex scenes but no nudity, a lot of shit talking and out of pocket comments if that would be too much though.

are the explicit scenes like long and like loud, also are they shown from a close up or from a distance

Has your dad ever expressed an interest in watching Timothee Chalamet get spanked on his bare ass by a reality TV star?

There is some bare butt. So I wouldn’t say 0 nudity but not like you really see anything else

  • Spoiler alert:🚨 when Jay Chandrasekhars character looses a ping pong match in ding dang, for a punishment they shove the paddle up his ass 🏓 wide end first, resulting in him reportedly “shitting pancakes 🥞 for years” this spoiler🚨 is for the movie beerfest- and this is the level of nonsense shenanigans I am hoping for with this movie ngl

  • This movie absolutely rocks. Mass applause at Safdie making ping pong cinematic when it needed to be. I was dialed in on that final set.

  • I dunno if it’s going to be a big film. A lot of people I know do not want to see it(myself included).

Then why are you in a spoiler thread about a movie you don’t want to see?

People are mad about Kevin O'Leary (understandable, he is a POS) but I don't get why people want to protest the entire film over him.

I hate Jared Leto, but enjoy some of the films he is in. Same goes for a lot of films.

Maybe there will be a reason in these spoilers enough for me to watch the movie. So far I'll skip it and I won't care, you shouldn't either. Love it if you love it.

Wouldn’t I avoid spoilers of a movie I wanted to see? Critical thinking is hard.

  • Why is it called “Marty Supreme”? Sounds like the name of a deli sandwich.

It’s the brand of orange ping pong balls the main character wants to market so he can profit off of his soon-to-be celebrity status, kind of like his version of Air Jordans.

  • can someone describe how explicit it is?? like if there are sex scenes, how many, what’s shown, any nudity?? if so then what?? I don’t wanna go with family if it’s a lot lol

there are a few short sex scenes not really much nudity shown except for timothee chalamet's bare butt in a non-sexual scene. and the opening credits are over a montage of microscopic sperm fertilizing an egg (after Marty impregnates someone)

is there nudity in the sex scenes? I saw IMDB said timothee shows some side peen very briefly

  • For how many minutes do I have to look at Kevin O'Learys bald face in it?

not that many tbh. he has a few major scenes but he's not in the majority of it, and his character is a rich asshole who you're supposed to hate anyway

  • Can someone tell me how the movie ends please?

In summary: All it takes for a man to change his POS ways is to become a father.
