I drained the fluid from my transmission while I had it out of the car replacing ims, and rms. The fluid that came out was red in color. Makes me think it was redline. I replaced it with porsche gear oil I bought from Pelican. Now the transmission (5 speed) is difficult to shift when cold and will grind a bit if forced.
Brake, and clutch fluid all replaced, and flushed alongside new slave cylinder.
Should I try to switch to a different fluid? Boxster has 90k on it.
What fluid did you put in?

I think that's the wrong oil.

Just found this in the comments:
" I had no idea what or how old the fluid was. After reading that Porsche genuine transmission fluid should be used, I tried the Porsche Classic transmission fluid (metal can). The results were surprisingly bad. The shifting went from notchy to crunchy for lack of better terms. After further research I found that the 986 transmissions require a GL4 fluid. The Porsche Classic stuff turned out to be a GL5. It is listed as recommended for 986, it should not be. "
God damnit. I guess Im doing this over now.
