Trying to find a good match for me of a late 986 or early 987, I noticed ebay had what appeared to be decent listings. Item numbers 986.2 297817694544 and 987.1 227063695016 (I dont want to link directly as I am not trying to advertise them I am not a seller). They seem inexpensive compared to some random ones on the cars dot com listings.
The 987 has a salvage title and the 986 has an automatic but otherwise they seem well priced. Or is it just too difficult to somehow go to the location, PPI it, and then bid on it as well?
I am pretty hesitant to buy a car online sight unseen. Really anything more than about $1k that isn’t new I wouldn’t buy online. That’s just me, pictures only tell part of the story, you have to see it in person as far as I’m concerned. I know many people have had good experiences buying online from BaT etc. but this is just my rule of thumb.
Why bother when there is so many for sale. Unless you are not in UK.
I bought my 986 Boxster on eBay, and my 911 on Bring a Trailer. Both sight unseen. At least at the time, the eBay Motors policy was that I didn't have to pay for the car until I saw it in person. Both transactions worked out great in the end but for sure they could have gone differently. The eBay one felt less risky anyway, because I didn't hand over the money until I personally saw the car. On Bring a Trailer, I had to pay in advance.
I bought a 2.7 from eBay for £2.5k unseen and have a great car but it’s a calculated risk. I bought the seller rather than the car as it was an extremely well written description with lots of info and I could tell was from an affluent area.
