I put a spare brush on there. I clean my teeth with a clean brush!

Also i sprayed some degreaser on there. Worked WONDERS! No towel cleaned it as good as my toothbrush. My Z rods are super shiny now.

But I figured it was better to move the Z with the brush alongside. Gets into the crevasses better this way.

  • Good idea to dual purpose an electric toothbrush and clean your teeth!

Don't even need to change heads🤣

It's the wives or girlfriend toothbrush who didn't like the printer.

  • You need to try gearfloss (or motofloss its cheaper), you won't use anything else after you do :)

I bought some, and yeah, it's perfect for that. Sprayed it with some alcohol, too. Came out perfect. Super easy.

It was the only way I could clean my A1, lead screws are hiden in the frame. Same experience as you, they come out perfectly clean

How the hell do you get it in there? I tried a new shoelace as a substitute, and it took like 10 minutes to wrap it around, which is why I decided not to buy gear floss (can only find one pack on amazon for 25 bucks)

I used a pipe cleaner to get it started.

You can buy moto floss too which is much cheaper :) Be patient, and use a bent wire to sort of fish it around there. You can also try thin tweezers to help.

If the wire is thin enough you might be able to bend a hook on the tip to hold the floss in place to fish it around the leadscrew

How the fuck did bambu expect us to clean these things? Like wtf man haha. Tempted to take a dremel to the outer frame and cut a slot haha (don't do that I'm joking)

  • Wrong link? Or dead for just me?

This! I saw a video demonstrating its use and my god it's so much better than any other method. Cleaning the entire length takes seconds now and is effortless compared to everything else I've used previously.

  • You guys clean your printers?

8000 hours in on my X1C and haven’t cleaned it…this might actually motivate me to give it a go.

My P1S w/ 7500 hours on it also hasn’t been cleaned. I’m convinced if I clean it now, it’ll break.

Valid point. Nope….not cleaning mine. Not worth the risk. 😉

I did it for the love of the game

I used to service both my printers once a month, back when I only had two.
That idea went out the window after the seventh printer...

  • I had that same idea in the past, since I go through spinbrush’s every couple months.

My experience wasn’t so great. I couldn’t see it, but it was flinging micro grains of grease in the cabin, despite using grease cutter (in my case 409 grease cleaner).

Print dust started collecting everywhere and phantom grease transfer to the bed and exterior, accidentally touching almost anywhere inside the enclosure, even from the backside of my hand.

Wasn’t until a few days later when I began noticing smudged exterior and interior what had happened. What I thought made short work of a chore, made more work for my chore.

  • My gf works at a dentist's office. She brings home the display brushes when she can. Super useful on my bikes.

  • How often should you clean your printer?

I do it every couple of months. Depends on how dirty your printer is (or how dusty)

  • Gear

    Floss

Don't clean it. Just keep adding new grease.

    Das nasty 🤢

  • I don't have a printer, but why do the threads get gunk on them?

Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the screw.

Ah, I thought it was bits of filament (like welding splatter) but I didn't think that really happened, so I was curious. Thanks!

Bits of filament do get everywhere over time. Especially if you have lots of stringing. Makes super fine hairs of filament that float around.

Same old sound, just a piece of plastic from an endless spool.

All we print, clogs to the screws, though we refuse to see.

Don't really know the chemistry behind all this, but the grease that is usually white (I use lithium grease) becomes dark and that means it's time to clean it off and I think the gunked grease is less effective than fresh grease. This time I haven't applied any grease besides the X axis (left - right travel) to see how it operates. Some of the POM thingamabobs are supposed to be self-greased, which means any other grease would do harm to them iirc

It turns dark because of shavings from the screw/nut itself. The nut is softer than the screw so the black gunk that accumulates is shavings from the nut caused by the screw. That plus dirt/plastic from the environment. Those bits of gunk increase friction, making loads higher for the motor and puts more stress on the system. So cleaning it off is good.

Acetal (POM) components on metal do not need to be greased in this application, but doesn't mean they can't be greased with the correct lubricant. Some greases will do harm (degrading the plastic), some won't do anything (repelled by the plastic), but some might help (albeit minimally since acetal is a really low-friction plastic).

Its like microplastic beads to better exfoliate your teeth and gums.

  • Sandwich artist gloves

  • I'm going to do it with my mother-in-law's brush :) lol hahaha

  • Also i sprayed some degreaser on there.

Thats all well and good but dont forget to re-grease them with some nice in-tarnished grease

  • Why are you wearing a glove?

I got some bad paper cuts earlier in the day. I didn't want the degreaser to burn me alive. I don't usually wear them.

Makes sense. Good plan, hope it worked

  • Ive had my voron for 2 years and i have never cleaned the Z rods, I have just added a bit of lube from time to time. The weight of the bed shouldnt allow for dust to affect travel

  • Waste of time lol

You could use that thing until your death without cleaning it. Just reapply lubricant every 1000 hours of use and it will outlive you lol

  • I do the same lol, didnt think of cleaning the z rods with it, yet, but im gonna do it next time cause i just cleaned and greased them today

  • 9 out of 10 dentist aproves this.

  • Die Munddusche danach nicht vergessen .
