An insanely ammount of spanish people are fully convinced that drinking a few glasses of wine a day don't harm you, despite all the scientific evidence stating clearly and without a shadow of a doubt that even a small ammount causes harm.
Surprisingly enough, some even think that smoking one or two cigarettes after lunch and dinner ain't a big deal and won't really affect your health.
IIRC it's just one glass of red wine, because of the resveratrol.
That you also would get by drinking unfermented grape juice instead.
PS: I just looked at the Wiki page on resveratrol, which says that
In particular, its effect on cancer prevention is so slight that drinking red wine for the sake of consuming resveratrol causes 100,000 alcohol-induced cancers for each single case of cancer that might be prevented by the resveratrol in the wine.\12])
This one is interesting because for a long time we thought that fermented drinks (beer, wine, cider) were good contrary to distilled drinks (vodka, gin and so on).
I have to say that from my uninformed POV that would make sense.
You're in the top 10 of life expectancy. Even Japan has maybe like 1 more year on average, which could be down to simple genetics or what the doctor had for breakfast that morning.
Italy and France also drink loads of wine and have very similar life expectancies.
I get what you mean, but until we have some significant medical advancements or a more equal society, I don't think life expectancy would increase that much.
The thing is that our REAL life expectancy is around 90+ years, with some people here living a fully functional live till that age without needing much medication or healhcare.
Now, the issue is that there's thousands of people who die every year from liver related issues, cancer (all kinds), and other issues directly linked to alcohol consumption and smoking.
Sure, we do lots of things (diet, exercise, sleep properly...) that contrast SOME of the backsides of drinking and smoking, but not all.
Have you even seen the average 90 year old? Their life is fucking misery, with pain everywhere and enough conditions to fill a med school year.
No amount of not drinking alcohol will make your joints not wear out, nor stop your brain from degenerating, nor having your nervous system crap out. We're already living way longer than our species was designed for as is.
You gotta die from something, better for it to be something you enjoy.
Like, at some point you gotta look at the quality of life hit compared to the reduction in risk.
Like, sure, I could completely stop eating like 95% of fish types, all red meat, drop alcohol completely, never see the sun again, never get inside a car again or leave my bed at all as I might trip and die... But if I do, what am I even living for? What good is a long life if you can't partake in the little pleasures along the way?
Sure thing. I do drink some wine, beer, and sometimes strong alcohol too. But knowing and being fully aware of the damage I'm doing to myself.
I'm okay with people living their lifes. What I'm not okay with is people spreading misinformation. If you're a grown-up, you should be able to enjoy doing what you do without having to lie to yourself about the consequences.
Damn, I didn't expect to get evidence for my statement so soon.
No, it can't. The damage of the alcohol outclassed the few benefits from antioxidants. Eat 2 or 3 grapes or berries, and you'll have more antioxidants and no alcohol.
It's okay if you wanna drink, but don't try to justify yourself.

We ain't the brightest Europeans, I'm afraid.
The wine lobby is as strong in Spain as it is in France it seems. Here we have many « studies » proving that consuming wine daily is good.

Looking forward to your butter studies.
PIGS reigning supreme here showing that a bit of physical harm can be offset by just enjoying life and having a healthy mind.

No, it can't.
Life expectancy could actually be much higher if it wasn't for alcohol.

A glass of wine can only improve your life.

Even doctors tell you to drink a glass a day (more than one is harmful). Why should I believe a stranger on the internet instead of them?
Please, for your own good, change your doctor.
Actually, it's not even my doctor, since I'm still waiting for a new family doctor; it's my grandfather's family doctor who advises to drink wine.
Shame on him, then. I bet it's an old ass doctor who hasn't been to any seminars regarding alcohol consumption since he graduated 30 years ago.
There will be siesta samples too
You, Lesbros, can't even drink wine.
The only thing lesbros know how to do is consume alcohol.
Stick to making cork, and leave the wine to us, the spaniards, and the italians
Lol he sneaked the Spaniards there , for some reason they drink more beer than wine
Well the heaviest drinkers are all on the other side of the border
Rookie numbers
sanchez really needs a good distraction, doesn't he?
I wonder if after 4 years the people involved will look anything like that woman
